Oaklawn Park Selections for March 17, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re on the racetrack for two courses at the BetOnline racebook. There are eight races available for wagering on this card Thursday. The most notable racecourses online are Oaklawn Park, Fair Grounds Race Course, and Gulfstream Park.

Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

All eyes will be on Fair Grounds soon for the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (Gr. 1) on March 26. That’s a big race with the first 100 points and an automatic ticket to the Kentucky Derby on the line. Even 2nd would be good for 50 points and probably the Kentucky Derby.

There are nine races worth $422,000 in prize money at Oaklawn Park. For more horse racing, check out our Fair Grounds page. Head below for our best Oaklawn Park picks on March 17, 2022.

Post Time: 1:00 p.m. CST
Distance: 6 Furlongs
Purse:$39,000

The first race at Oaklawn Park is a $39,000 event covering 6 furlongs. Ima Bling Cat and J. E.’s Handmedown should be in the best form in this race.

Ima Bling Cat is 2 for 11 and looking for something easier on Thursday. After a win on May 21, Ima Bling Cat went winless in four straight outings.

In his most recent, the gelding finished 7th on February 25 for a $100,000 purse. This was a disappointing effort after finishing 6th on January 15 in another $100,000 assignment.

J. E.’s Handmedown should be the toughest to match. He is 4 for 35 and 3rd, 5th, 2nd in his previous three attempts.

In his most recent showing, J. E.’s Handmedown placed 2nd behind Rolling Fork by 2 lengths in a $100,000 race. That’s more like it.

J. E.’s Handmedown has been competitive in much tougher races than this event on Thursday. Expect this one to be in his favor.

Post Time: 1:29 p.m. CST
Distance: 6 Furlongs
Purse:$29,000

The second at Oaklawn Park is a $29,000 race covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Expect Harry and Freer to look good in this one.

Harry is winless in 14 races and 5th, 2nd, 4th in his previous three attempts. Two races back, he placed 2nd behind Abdan by 7 ¾ lengths in a $25,000.

Following that one, Harry came back to a discouraging 4th place finish on March 4 for a $26,000 assignment. More is required on Thursday, but the talent is in place for Harry. He has to be more interested, though.

Freer is winless in ten attempts, finishing 2nd, 5th, 8th, 2nd in his previous four assignments. In his most recent outing, Freer placed 2nd behind Holiday Ticket in a $25,000 event.

That was better after struggling on January 28. He is in the best form right now and should benefit from the No. 2 post position. Look for Freer to play a big role on these terms.

The Bet

Post Time: 4:04 p.m. CST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$33,000

Our last selection in Hot Springs is a $33,000 event on the dirt covering 1 1/16 miles. Consider looking at Major Attraction and Ekati’s Verve.

Major Attraction is 2 for 19 in his career and should carry on well after some progressive runs recently. He has finished in the top-3 in four straight assignments going into this one.

Major Attraction most recently showed 3rd on February 21 in a $26,000 event. This after placing 2nd behind Press Snooze by 2 lengths for $27,000 on January 2.

His biggest foe has to be Ekati’s Verve right next to him in the gate. Ekati’s Verve is 2 for 18 in his career and should run well in Race 7.

Ekati’s Verve is 1st, 2nd in his previous two attempts. The gelding struck with an $18,000 win by 1 ¼ lengths on February 4. That was good and Ekati’s Verve looked fine on February 21.

He placed 2nd behind Extraordinary by a half-length for $28,000. That would probably be good enough versus this field. Ekati’s Verve has value with this morning-line.
