There isn’t much action available on Monday, with only one NFL game on the schedule tonight. It should be a good one between the LA Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but that’s all in the way of major or college sports. There are a lot of betting options out there, including props if you aren’t feeling the spread or total. I have a couple of prop bets for Monday Night Football, and otherwise going to focus on the ponies. It isn’t the biggest of cards, which is typically the case on Mondays. BetOnline has three racecourses open for betting today. It’s one more than I was accustomed to in the spring when there was only Fonner Park and Will Rogers Downs to begin the week.
There hasn’t been much big stakes racing to speak of since the Breeders’ Cup Classic. There will be a $500,000 Grade 1 stakes race at Churchill Downs to mark the first Grade 1 event in the US in two weeks. Mahoning Valley is home to the only stakes race in North America on Monday. The running of the $200,000 Steel Valley Sprint is expected for this afternoon. BetOnline is offering Remington Park, Parx, and Mountaineer Park for betting. We will begin the day at Parx in Philadelphia. Parx is putting on a ten-race card worth a total of $242,000. Best of luck with all of your horse racing picks today! Head below for our free Parx Racing picks for November 23, 2020.

The racing will begin at Parx on Monday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. EST. Race 1 is for a $17,000 purse on the dirt track. Frisky Feeling and Skylight should run a strong race to open the day in Philadelphia. Frisky Feeling is winless in four races, but has been in the top-3 in three of four performances. She has finished 3rd, 5th, 3rd, 2nd in her career, so she is coming off the best performance of her career on November 2.
Frisky Feeling placed 2nd behind Azlynn’s Dreamer by a neck in a $17,000 event. Frisky Feeling was 11th at the ½ pole, so it was a nice effort to fly up and make a race of it. If she didn’t get so wide in the stretch, Frisky Feeling might have had the win in that outing.
For a horse bought for $3,500 in 2017, starting off with three finishes in the top-3 in four races isn’t too bad. She will have to get this race done from the far outside, as Frisky Feeling will be running from the No. 9 post position. Her biggest threat in this one is likely going to be Skylight.
Skylight has appeared in two races and has done well. She has shown 3rd and placed 2nd thus far. She was a bargain buy as well, with a purchase price of $3,000 in 2018. In her debut on September 30 at Finger Lakes, Skylight showed 3rd in a $13,000 event. That put her 1 ½ lengths and a head off the winning pace.
She reappeared on October 27 to place 2nd behind Lasagna in a $26,500 event. Skylight was defeated by 1 ¼ lengths for a really nice effort. That form today would be more than enough to find a spot in the winner’s circle on Monday. I’m going to back Skylight to get the win in Race 1.

We’ll head to Race 2 next at Parx on Monday afternoon. Race 2 is for a $18,000 purse on the dirt. Eight horses are expected to participate in this race. African Song and Groove are on my shortlist for Race 2. African Song is 1 for 17 in her career, having recently finally arrived in the winner’s circle on October 21 in a $17,000 event by a head over Oui Madame.
She came back on November 10th to follow up in 3rd in a $18,000 event. African Song wasn’t as close as that sounds. She was over 10 lengths behind the winner, so getting a win in that race was not in the equation. In any case, those two races puts African Song going in the right direction. She has finished 5th, 4th, 1st, 3rd in her previous four outings.
Groove is 1 for 9 in her career. She won in February at Laurel Park in a $30,861 event. Since then, Groove has not been in the winner’s circle. In her previous four performances, Groove has gone 2nd, 2nd, 9th, 4th. In the last race she had success in, Groove placed 2nd behind Celtic Vow by a half length in a $18,000 race.
In her most recent showing, Groove finished 4th on November 10 2 ¾ lengths behind African Song. She did show improvement down the stretch, so that was a positive. I’ve liked what I have seen from Groove in workouts since then as well. Given the odds, I am going to take a chance on Groove as a slight underdog in Race 2.

Race 8 runs for 6 furlongs on the dirt for a $28,000 purse at Parx. New York Rock Star and Helene Jacqueline should run well in this outing. New York Rock Star is 1 for 8 in her career, but has generally been in good form. She’s made a habit out of picking up show and place money throughout her career so far.
It might be only a matter of time before she breaks through for a winning run. New York Rock Star has been in the top-3 in seven of eight races. In her previous two outings, New York Rock Star placed 2nd behind Peaceful Feeling by 1 ½ lengths in a $27,200 event. She followed up to place 2nd in a $28,000 event on August 17 by 6 ¼ lengths.
Since then, New York Rock Star has been on a layoff and will make her return to the racecourse on Monday afternoon. She has looked good in workouts, with a time of 59.84 seconds and 1:00.02 at 5 furlongs. Expect her to run another close race in this assignment. Helene Jacqueline should be able to press her.
Helene Jacqueline is 1 for 8 in her career, too. She has ran close throughout her career as well, with six out of eight outings in the top-2, including a win in her most recent outing on August 24. Helene Jacqueline beat Brooklyn Heights by 4 ½ lengths in an easy win for a $40,000 race. Prior to that, Helene Jacqueline placed 2nd in a $40,000 outing. Down in class for today, Helene Jacqueline should produce a bold bid. Look out for New York Rock Star, but I believe Helene Jacqueline can hold on.
