Prairie Meadows Daily Double and Pick 3 Selections for July 31, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

We are a day away from a big day of racing across the US. If you’re into horse racing as a fan, then Saratoga and Del Mar are going to have everything you need. There might even be some opportunities at Saratoga and Del Mar to make some money of our own a well. With over $2,000,000 in prize money available at Saratoga, Saratoga Springs is going to get the spotlight.

However, if you want to watch a race that impacts the Kentucky Derby, then the Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar is for you. That is a prep race for Labor Day Weekend. However, the biggest prep race left on the schedule is next week at Saratoga in the Travers Stakes. We are going to get a look at Derby favorite, Tiz the Law, in the $1,000,000 Travers next weekend.

In the meantime, there’s a lot of racing to be done between no and next Saturday. The feature race at Prairie Meadows might have a purse of only $31,500 up for grabs today, but hopefully we can do some damage on a multi-bet ticket or two in Iowa in the evening. If you are unable to bet during the day, Prairie Meadows is offering an evening card on Friday. Head below for our free Prairie Meadows Daily Double and Pick 3 selections for July 31, 2020.

Race 4

(1) Fools Rushin
+800 (8/1)
(2) Browdy Boy
+400 (4/1)
(3) You Funny Man
+250 (5/2)
(4) Greencastle Tap
+350 (7/2)
(5) Be Stormy
+1000 (10/1)
(6) Upperclassman
+200 (2/1)

Post Time: 7:19 p.m. CST
Distance: 6 Furlongs
Purse: $15,070

We will start with Race 4 at Prairie Meadows, which is offering a $15,070 purse for 6 furlongs on the dirt. Upperclassman and You Funny Man are likely going to get into a battle in the stretch. You Funny Man is 11 for 63 in his career and has the talent to make some noise here. His results have just been too inconsistent to trust him on a race-to-race basis, though. In his previous five outings, You Funny Man has finished 4th, 2nd, 1st, 6th, 3rd. If you go back further, most of his results follow the same kind of up and down trend.

In his most recent performance, You Funny Man finished 3rd on July 13 for a $15,070 purse, so he remains in the same class for today. In his most recent win on July 3, 2019 You Funny Man won by 1 ¼ lengths over Galaxy’s Wildcat. He was coming off a layoff in his most recent race on July 13. Not a bad effort off a layoff for You Funny Man, and if he can improve on that run, then he’s going to be close to the wire near the end of this race. You Funny Man recently completed 4 furlongs in 49.53 and 49 seconds.

Upperclassman should provide the best challenge for You Funny Man. While You Funny Man has been inconsistent. Upperclassman has been the opposite. He has finished in the top-2 in five straight races, and in the top-2 in 7 of his previous 8 races, which dates back to 2018. In his last two performances, Upperclassman came 2 lengths from a win on June 27, and then ¾ lengths away from Pepper Prince. He was pulled in late in that race, with Upperclassman coming really close to a wire-to-wire victory. Upperclassman has been coming really close, and he’s going to be up there again on Friday. Against this field, a win should be within reach for him.

Race 5

(1) Bendi Blu
+3000 (30/1)
(2) A Royal Ace
+400 (4/1)
(3) Ta
+300 (3/1)
(4) R Marie
+800 (8/1)
(5) Nightstar
+180 (9/5)
(6) Five Queens
+250 (5/2)

Post Time: 7:46 p.m. CST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs

The next leg our multi-bet takes us to Race 5, where a purse of $11,500 is available for 5 ½ furlongs of racing. We could have a duel on our hands between Five Queens and Nightstar. Both have a legitimate chance of heading to the winner’s circle in this one. I wouldn’t disagree with an argument for either horse, but I think one horse has the slight edge. Five Queens is a hat-trick seeker after wins on June 22 and July 6. She won by 6 lengths in a comfortable win on June 22 in a $10,500 event, and then followed up on July 6 for a 4 ½ length win over Foolish Princess at $10,180.

That was the first wins of Five Queens’ career. She went 8th, 7th, 9th, 3rd before winning in June. She was running for $17,000 in the race she finished 3rd in. As an underdog in that race, there wasn’t much expected out of Five Queens, so I wouldn’t say it was a wasted effort. It was actually a good result for Five Queens to get in the money. This race is going to be slightly more difficult than her last two outings, but there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be close.

Nightstar has been a model of consistency since November. I don’t know if Five Queens can keep her run going, but Nightstar has been rolling for seven straight outings. She opened her career shooting high in the Las Vegas Ranch Stakes on September 1, 2019 in Arizona. Nightstar finished 4th for a fairly decent debut. Since then, Nightstar has had a lot of success finding prize money. She has finished 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd in her previous seven races.

Nightstar came 3 ½ lengths short of a win in a $11,500 event on July 6. She is generally accustomed to competing in slightly tougher races than Five Queens. I think both have a good chance of getting the win here. However, I’m giving the slight edge to Nightstar at the wire. Her history against better competition than Five Queens should help here.

Race 6

(1) Hello Darling
+400 (4/1)
(2) Snapy Gal
+600 (6/1)
(3) Zella Rose
+200 (2/1)
(4) Topless
+800 (8/1)
(5) Tangalang
+1500 (15/1)
(6) Mywomanfromtokyo
+160 (8/5)

Post Time: 8:13 p.m. CST
Distance:1 Mile 70 Yards
Purse: $45,209

Race 6 is the feature event of the day at Prairie Meadows on Friday night. The race will cover a mile and 70 yard on the dirt for a $45,209 purse. Zella Rose and Mywomanfromtokyo should be in the mix in this one. It is likely going to be another close event. Zella Rose has gone 12 for 52 in her career and even has some stakes experience. She recently had success in the $100,000 Donna Reed Stakes on September 2, 2019 and had a strong effort for 2nd. Zella Rose lost by 3 ½ lengths against Hello Darling. She wasn’t one of the favorites racing in that event, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Zella Rose has finished 5th, 6th, 3rd since then, so a drop off in production from September. She is coming off an appearance in the $50,000 Mamie Eisenhower Stakes on July 4. That was a strong run by Zella Rose. She finished 3rd as one of the biggest underdogs in the race. To get ready for this event, Zella Rose ran a quick time of 59.79 seconds over 4 furlongs on July 23 in a morning workout.

Mywomanfromtokyo is likely the only opponent that can contend with Zella Rose in Race 6. She was a participant in the Eisenhower Stakes as well, though Zella Rose beat her by a length. Mywomanfromtokyo was the favorite in that race and expected to win there. She had a bit of an excuse, as she got caught up in traffic at the top of the stretch. Despite losing that race, Mywomanfromtokyo has seven stakes wins in her career, including the 2019 Eisenhower Stakes.

She is coming off a blazing hot workout on July 19 with a time of 47.58 seconds over 4 furlongs. Mywomanfromtokyo also completed 4 furlongs earlier in June with a time of 46.91 seconds and 5 furlongs in 58.47 seconds. She is more than fast enough to beat Zella Rose despite getting tied up edged for 3rd in their most recent meeting a few weeks ago. Look for Mywomanfromtokyo to seek out some revenge and get it done over Zella Rose on Friday night.
