Remington Park Picks – Horse Racing Selections April 9, 2020

Remington Park is open for another day of quarter horse racing on Thursday. I am a big fan of the quarter horses, so naturally I have my eyes on this card. From a purely entertainment point of view, betting on quarter horses is highly recommended. If you’re new to horse racing, quarter horses come out of the gate fast and furious. It’s a mad dash to the wire in a straight line, unlike thoroughbreds who are bred to race at longer distances. There is no way a quarter horse would have enough stamina to compete with them. It’s like putting 100m sprinters against 1600m runners. The sprinter is going to win every time in a 100m race, while a runner training for 1600m will win with ease.

If you prefer to watch the 100m dash, then you’re going to like quarter horse racing. Remington Park will have you covered throughout the weekend. It’s exciting racing that’s for certain, and hopefully we can come out of it by Sunday with a profit. Remington Park is still racing despite the casino and fan attendance closed off. They were killing it prior to the shutdown in terms of total handle. That helps soften the blow of having to cut off casino money to the purse. And with horse racing the only game in town in North America, they’re enjoying the added attention via simulcasting.

There are ten races on the card Thursday. Remington Park will continue to host races throughout the weekend. With the meet done at Louisiana Downs, Remington Park is the only track in the country with quarter horses dueling. Let’s see if we can turn a profit on Thursday in OKC. Head below for our free Remington Park picks for April 9, 2020.

Race 2

(1) B B Coronas Prospect
+1000 (10/1)
(2) A Separate Wagon Dh
+300 (3/1)
(3) One Sweet Promise
+350 (7/2)
(4) Lota Jail Time
+1000 (10/1)
(5) Change Furr Better
+500 (5/1)
(6) Z Corona
+600 (6/1)
(7) Crickets Cartel
+800 (8/1)

Post Time: 6:26 CST
Distance: 870 Yards

Yes, it can’t be a good thing when two of the horses in the races have corona in their names. In any event, neither appear to be much of a threat to win. Race 4 will feature a long race by quarter horse standards, with 870 yards deciding a winner on Thursday evening.

B B Coronas Prospect who is related to the Coronas Prospect who was foaled in 2000, is likely going to have a difficult time keeping up with the field here. He goes into Thursday as a lofty underdog on the morning lines. There’s a good chance he has bigger odds than +1000 at post time.

B B Coronas Prospect is still searching for his first win in what will be his 12th attempt tonight. He is 0-11 and has shown in just one of those events. The original Coronas Prospect made his team a lot of money, with $164,559 in 20 races. Conversely, his son has made only $3,222 in 11 races. Nothing is likely going to change for him on Thursday evening in OKC.

Lota Jail Time and Crickets Cartel are probably going to be in the same boat. Crickets Cartel has finished 3rd just once in his five-race career. Other than that outing on September 27, 2019, Crickets Cartel has not finished better than 7th. That’s not going to be enough against this field.

Lota Jail Time is a rookie to quarter horse racing, with only two starts on his resume. He finished 10th in his debut on November 8, 2019 and then moved up to 5th in his next effort on March 14. Perhaps we see another leap forward? Maybe, but it’s likely not enough for a win.

The fastest horses in this race is A Seperate Wagon Dh and One Sweet Promise. If they want to run on Thursday, it’s likely a dash between them at the wire. A Seperate Wagon Dh, yes the spelling is correct, is still looking for his first win, but will see a slightly slower field today. He has failed to finish better than 5th in four races, so a drop in class will likely do him well.

One Sweet Promise has been running well recently, placing in each of his last two starts. Also note that he has shown in three of his last four events. It’s been a long layoff for One Sweet Promise, his last start coming in May. However, if he runs like that before he transferred stables, this should be a clean win for One Sweet Promise.

(8) Jess Sellers

(9) Jett Gray
+400 (4/1)
(10) Mjsguerita
+1200 (12/1)

Post Time: 7:44 CST
Distance:250 Yards

After a long session of 870 yards in Race 4, we’ll switch gears and go to Race 5, which features a much shorter distance of 250 yards. It’s going to be a mad dash straight out of the gate. There are likely going to be some pretty big underdogs in this race at post time. If you like selecting several big dogs Race 5 is going to be for you.

I count more than half of the field that could be at +1000 or greater. Acelerado will likely hit post time as the biggest underdog in the field. She has a win back on May 19, 2019, though that was his debut and hasn’t been impressive since. Acelerado has failed to show in three straight events.

She will face competition from Flying Candy Girl and Candy Moon Fling for the worst of the worst in Race 5. Flying Candy Girl does have a win to her name recently, though, having notched a win two races ago in November. She completed the 250-yard dash in 13.515 seconds for the win. Solid run, but she would have to be better than that to compete with the better horses in this race.

Despite the win, Flying Candy Girl finished 5th on October 11, 2019 and March 12. She has 1 win in 11 races and has compiled $11,694 in earnings. Candy Moon Fling has less experience, though is coming off a win in her fifth career outing. She got the win in a time of 13.442 seconds at 250 yards. Slightly better than Flying Candy Girl’s time, but it will still be tough to compete here.

Americanna is likely going to be the top horse to beat in this race. She might be coming off a loss on March 14, but it was a valiant effort. Americanna placed 2nd at 300 yards to finish behind Travellin Friends by a nose. That could have very well been a win, but was clocked at the wire with a time of 15.521 versus 15.465 for her competitor. Americanna has shown in three of her previous four races, which includes a win on July 24, 2019 at 250 yards.

For Americanna, the biggest threats are likely going to be Miss Trainwreck and Ms Jetta B. Miss Trainwreck has failed to show since May 19, 2019 and hasn’t won a race in five attempts, which was her debut back on April 29, 2019. She has been unable to show in her last three events. Ms Jetta B looked good in her latest race on March 12, having finished 2nd with a time of 15.606 at 300 yards. Her win was clocked at 13.476 seconds at 250 yards on October 12, 2019. In the end, Americanna looks like the horse to beat.
