TheSportsGeek has two evening cards on Wednesday at Penn National Race Course and Remington Park. BetOnline has a decent card for a Wednesday in October with racing from the east to the west coast. The weather has been perfect for racing in October across the country, so that’s been a big bonus for racing facilities.
The stakes racing kicks up again on Saturday, but there aren’t any really notable races to mention. Belmont Park has a $400,000 event on the turf, and Laurel Park has 12 racecourses. Those are the only events that might garner some attention this weekend. Everyone is patiently waiting for the Breeders’ Cup, which is quickly coming around the corner at Del Mar in California.
We are at Remington Park for a nine-race card worth $215,725 on Wednesday evening. There are seven races on the dirt, and two races on the turf on this card. Head below for our free Remington Park picks for October 20, 2021.
Race 1
Post Time: 7:07 p.m. CST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$13,475
Race 1 covers 5 ½ furlongs for a $13,475 purse on Wednesday evening. This race on the dirt will get us started at Remington Park. It’s an event that will likely feature Brew Casa and Lady Abigail should have a strong presence in the stretch.
Lady Abigail is 4 for 31 in her career, and has finished 3rd, 2nd, 9th, 4th in his previous four attempts. Her best of that group was on July 12 at Fair Meadows. Lady Abigail placed 2nd behind Miss Casey Beth by 1 ¼ lengths in a $4,950 event.
The mare most recently finished 4th for a $13,475 purse in her most recent outing on September 29. This was after going 9th on August 20 for a $41,650 prize.
Brew Casa is 5 for 40 in her career, and has finished 4th, 1st, 3rd in her previous three outings. She defeated Princess Asya by 7 lengths for a $13,475 purse. That was too easy.
In her most recent attempt, Brew Casa showed 3rd against some tougher competition. I don’t think she’s going to be seeing the same difficult level in this one. Brew Casa should have this to open the card at Remington Park.
Race 4
Post Time: 8:31 p.m. CST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$16,000
Race 4 covers 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $16,000 purse. Stomping Hotrod and Pop’s Biscuit should have a strong presence in this event.
Stomping Hotrod is 2 for 13 in his career, and has finished 2nd, 1st, 4th, 1st in his previous four attempts. In his most recent ride, Stomping Hotrod defeated Cresson by 8 ¼ lengths for a $11,000 assignment.
This was after Stomping Hotrod finished 4th for a $11,500 purse on September 12. He’s edging up to the $16,000 class on Wednesday, so we’ll see what kind of results he can produce against tougher opponents.
Pop’s Biscuit is a two-time winner in 10 attempts, finishing 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st in his previous four races.
He is looking for a hat-trick following a 1 ½ length $40,425 win, and then most recently a 4 length win in a $41,650 assignment. Down to $16,000, this should be too easy for Pop’s Biscuit tonight.
Race 8
Post Time: 10:23 p.m. CST
Distance:5 Furlongs
Purse:$33,000
Race 8 covers 5 furlongs on the dirt. Atta Party and Keen Cat are squarely in a good spot for a win in Race 8. There is some good value to be had in this race, and the winner is going to make some people very happy tonight.
Atta Party made his debut on September 24 and looked sharp to place 2nd. The gelding finished 5 ¾ lengths behind Bayron for a $33,000 purse.
Atta Party is sticking in the same class, and should have some kind of presence in the stretch with a similar performance. If he can show improvement after that outing on September 24, Atta Party is going to have a big chance.
Keen Cat could be ready for an upset bid from the No. 2 hole. This gelding gets a good draw and should have a chance to go in.
Keen Cat made his debut on September 15 and he looked good as well. He showed 3rd for a $33,000 purse after rallying late. The finish was strong for the rookie. At 5/1 on the morning-line, Keen Cat has a better chance than that to win Race 8.
