Santa Anita Park Best Bets for March 20, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The BetOnline racebook has at least 12 racecourses for wagering on Sunday afternoon and into the evening hours. This isn’t a big stakes day if that’s what you’re anticipating. There are two $100,000 stakes races, but nothing to note.

Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

That will change next Saturday at Fair Grounds Race Course with the running of the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (Gr. 1). That’s a big prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. We’ll be at Fair Grounds for all of the action next weekend.

For Sunday, we’re at Aqueduct Racetrack and Santa Anita Park. Santa Anita has eight races worth $425,000 in prize money Sunday afternoon.

Head below for our best Santa Anita Park picks on March 20, 2022.

(2) Mercy Mercy
+500 (5/1)
(3) Badger Kitten
+1000 (10/1)
(4) Rapid Transit

(6) Bye Bye Bertie
+160 (8/5)
(7) Kleen Karma
+800 (8/1)

Post Time: 2:05 p.m. PST
Distance: 1 ¼ Miles

The $40,000 Race 2 should be between Mercy Mercy and Bye Bye Bertie in the stretch run. Mercy Mercy is a five-time winner in 25 attempts, with back-to-back winning runs on January 7 and February 18.

The mare beat Take a Leap by 1 ¼ lengths for a $26,000 purse and then a half-length win for a $40,000 purse a month back. She is in much better form now after finishing 4th, 4th, 9th, 5th, 8th in five races.

Based on what she is doing recently, Mercy Mercy will have a chance to go in. She will likely be joined by Bye Bye Bertie in the stretch run.

Bye Bye Bertie is 10 for 22 and is coming off a hat-trick looking for more. After finishing 6th in the $100,000 Bayakoa Stakes (Gr. 3), Bye Bye Bertie hasn’t missed.

In her latest outing, Bye Bye Bertie beat Buyback by 2 ¼ lengths on February 13 for a $40,000 assignment. This is another winnable event for Bye Bye Bertie.

Race 4

(1) Lila at the Beach
+600 (6/1)
(2) Red Panty Night
+250 (5/2)
(3) Marie
+160 (8/5)
(4) Sue Ettas Ghost
+800 (8/1)
(5) La V.
+250 (5/2)
(6) Bonita Leona
+1000 (10/1)

Post Time: 2:35 p.m. PST
Distance: 6 Furlongs

Race 4 is a $31,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Red Panty Night and Marie should be involved in the stretch run.

Red Panty Night is 1 for 4 and 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 5th in her previous four events. She came through two races back in a $23,000 assignment on December 5.

That was a 3 length win and impressive form. However, Red Panty Night struggled on February 27, going 5th for a $40,000 purse.

Disappointing up in class, but back down to $31,000, Red Panty Night will compete. Marie is 6th, 1st in two events, with a 6 ½ length for February 27 on February 27.

That was great improvement after finishing 6th at Del Mar on November 14, 2020. The layoff helped and drop down from a $57,000 assignment as well.

If Marie wants to run today, there probably isn’t anything stopping her from another win at the $31,000 level on Sunday.

Race 7 – Sensational Star Stakes

(1) Indian Peak
+250 (5/2)
(2) Brickyard Ride
+160 (8/5)
(3) Sacred Rider
+2000 (20/1)
(4) Jetovator

(6) Big Fish

(7) Whooping Jay
+1500 (15/1)
(8) Fashionably Fast
+500 (5/1)

Post Time: 4:12 p.m. PST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs

Race 7 is the $100,000 Sensational Star Stakes on the downhill turf at Santa Anita Park. Indian Peak and Brickyard Ride should be tough on these terms.

Indian Peak is 6 for 24 and should be in competitive form. He has finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 2nd in his previous five outings, placing 2nd behind Barraza by 2 ¾ lengths in the $100,000 San Simeon Stakes (Gr. 3) on February 20.

That was a decent response after finishing 6th in the $200,000 Unusual Heat Turf Classic on January 15. This one should put Indian Peak on the map in the stretch.

Brickyard Ride has a 50% win rate, with 10 wins in 20 assignments. He’s won back-to-back events and looking at a hat-trick.

Brickyard Ride most recently beat Touchdown Brown in a blowout by 7 ½ lengths in the $100,000 Tiznow Stakes on February 21. He was coming off a 1 ¾ length win in the $150,000 Tiznow Stakes on February 21.

In this current form, Brickyard Ride should be tough for his opponents.
