You can’t complain about no action on Friday, as BetOnline has an action packed afternoon and evening with at least 15 racecourses available for wagering. If you want to go after the smaller tracks, then that’s possible, and if you are somebody that only likes to play the big boys, that’s going to be an option on Friday as well.
Among the bigger tracks, there is Aqueduct Racetrack and Gulfstream Park on the east coast, while Santa Anita Park is out west in California. Oaklawn Park is also back to racing this weekend. Fair Grounds has big events throughout the year, and the event of the year is tomorrow with the running of the $1,000,000 170-point Louisiana Derby (Gr. 1).
We have a card in New Orleans for Friday, and we’ll be back tomorrow to handicap the Louisiana Derby. For the picks this afternoon, head over to our Fair Grounds Race Course page. Santa Anita Park has eight races scheduled for a total of $423,000 in prize money available. Head below for our free Santa Anita Park picks for March 19, 2021.

We will start with the first race at Santa Anita Park, a mile event on the turf for a $61,000 purse. Hail Freedom and Cargo should be involved in the stretch run. They likely battle it out for the top prize in this one. Hail Freedom has appeared in two races in his career, going 4th and 2nd so far. As a first-time starter, Hail Freedom finished 4th for a $61,000 event on December 27.
There wasn’t anything wrong with the effort as a rookie. The young colt did beat six horses, but weakened too much late to have a chance at the top prize. Hail Freedom came back on January 8 to move up a couple of spots to place 2nd behind That Corey by 6 lengths. The public liked Hail Freedom, as the money flowed in on him to win. That failed to materialize, but it was a step in the right direction going into today.
Cargo made his debut on February 15 and got off to a solid start right away. He placed 2nd behind Like the Wind by 1 ½ lengths on January 7 in a $61,000 event. It was a nice attempt as a first-time runner, and carries a lot of confidence going into Friday. He’s coming off a couple of very strong workouts in March, with a time of 1:00.40 at 5 furlongs and 59.80 seconds most recently on March 14. This looks like a winning situation for Cargo on Friday.

A mile on the turf for a $63,000 purse is the scene for Race 6 at Santa Anita park. Six horses are scheduled to participate, with Big Beauty and Disko Fever potentially dueling for the win. Big Beauty has been in good form to go 2nd and 1st. As a first-time runner, Big Beauty placed 2nd on January 17 in a $61,000 event.
Disko Fever took the win in that race by 3 ½ lengths for a pretty nice attempt. Big Beauty came back on February 26 to beat Sunshine Babe by 1 ¾ lengths. That was a nice go for Big Beauty, and a return to the winner’s circle could be in order.
Big Beauty will look to show that he can beat Disko Fever this time in a rematch. Disko Fever has a win in two of three starts, and is searching for a hat-trick on Friday. He’s gone 4th, 1st, 1st so far, with back-to-back wins on January 17 and February 12. In the first win, Disko Fever beat Big Beauty by 3 ½ lengths.
In his most recent attempt, Disko Fever defeated Dancing Dana by 1 ¾ lengths in a $36,000 event. After the win against Big Beauty, he’s shown no signs of regression or slowing down. With Big Beauty showing nice signs of improvement and getting stronger, it should be closer than the first meeting. However, I still give the nod to Disko Fever getting there at the wire for a win.

Race 7 is a $63,000 event on the main track for another $63,000 prize. This will take a mile to complete, with Clayton Delaney and Coalinga Road likely butting heads in the stretch. Clayton Delaney is 2 for 8 in his career, going 2nd, 2nd, 1st in his previous three attempts. He placed 2nd in back-to-back events on November 20 and January 3.
In the first of those two showings, Clayton Delaney placed behind Fly to Mars by a neck in a $59,000 event. In his next appearance on January 3, he placed behind Offshore Affair by a nose in a $63,000 race. Then Clayton Delaney finally broke through on February 13 for a a half length win over Mr. Brownstowne for a $63,000 prize. Expect another close run from Clayton Delaney.
Coalinga Road is a two-time winner in his career. In his most recent victory, he skated past Brix for a 1 length win for a $59,000 purse. Since then, Coalinga Road has gone 3rd in another $59,000 assignment, and then came back to place 2nd on January 2 behind Tizhotndusty in a $63,000 race. Coalinga Road has looked slightly better in workouts leading up to Friday. Both have been good, but Coalinga Road has looked great. I’m going to side with Coalinga Road to edge out Clayton Delaney.
