Santa Anita Park Selections for October 30, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re off and running on the last Saturday before the Breeders’ Cup. The much anticipated weekend is almost here, as Del Mar will host the Breeders’ CUp Classic and a host of other exciting graded races.

Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

It’s a bittersweet weekend. Like the Super Bowl, you have to wait months for the next season. And while horse racing is different in the sense that there’s racing every day after the Breeders’ Cup, the stakes racing is toned down in somewhat of an “offseason”.

The next meaningful race is the Road to the Kentucky Derby events. The Triple Crown will be here before you know it.

There is small stakes racing on Saturday. There isn’t a million dollar event, and not even a $500,000 race, so I’m not going to focus on one track before a big race.

I am heading to Santa Anita Park where there are ten races worth $545,000 in prize money. Head below for our free Santa Anita Park picks for October 30, 2021.

Post Time: 12:30 p.m. PST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles

The first event at Santa Anita Park is a $65,000 event covering 1 ⅛ miles on the dirt. Tapwater and Mucho Unusual look like the horses to consider in Race 1.

Tapwater is 3 for 13 in her career, with some good results lately. Given the tough events that Tapwater was entering, her connections can’t complain all that much.

Tapwater has finished 4th, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 7th in her previous five attempts. All were stakes racing, including three graded outings.

In her most recent outing, Tapwater finished 7th in the $200,000 John C. Mabee Stakes (Gr. 2) on September 4. This was after going 3rd in the $80,000 CTT and TOC Stakes.

Mucho Unusual and Flavien Prat are going to be tough in this one. Mucho Unusual has finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd in his previous four attempts, all graded events.

The mare went back-to-back in the $100,000 Robert F. Frankel Stakes (Gr. 3) and $100,000 Megahertz Stakes (Gr. 3), and then placed 2nd in the $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes (Gr. 2) and $100,000 Santa Ana Stakes (Gr. 3) by 3 ¾ lengths most recently.

This looks winnable for Mucho Unusual from the No. 1 post position.

+120 (6/5)

Post Time: 3:06 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

Race 6 covers 6 furlongs on the dirt for a $36,000 purse. This is a modest prize for Santa Anita, but I think we can find a winner to pad the bankroll. I’m the Boss of Me and Brilliant Cut should be tough.

I’m the Boss of Me is a one-time winner in nine outings. She has been in good form, finishing 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd in her previous five attempts.

In her most recent win, I’m the Boss of Me beat Mamma Rama by 11 lengths in a blowout for a $23,000 purse. She’s still going well, but hasn’t been back to the winner’s circle.

I’m the Boss of Me most recently placed 2nd behind Trouville by 3 lengths in a $34,000 assignment. Brilliant Cut should be a tough foe.

Brilliant Cut is 1 for 8 with the filly going 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 4th in her last four outings. She has graded experience, and is coming off a stakes race.

Brilliant Cut placed 2nd behind Nimbostratus by a nose in a $78,000 assignment, and then 4th most recently in the $75,000 Unzip Me Stakes on October 3. Down to $36,000, this should be easy if she’s ready to run.

Post Time: 4:40 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

Race 9 goes on for a $61,000 purse covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Look for a bold bid from Moose Mitchell and Creative Peak.

No surprise if they are there at the wire. Creative Peak has finished 2nd, DNF, 3rd in three attempts. He opened nicely, placing 2nd behind Rock N Rye by 4 ¼ lengths in a $61,000 assignment.

In his most recent attempt, Creative Peak showed 3rd in a $61,000 race. It was another acceptable effort for Creative Peak. A similar outing will put Creative Peak close.

Moose Mitchell has finished 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 2nd in his previous four attempts. The gelding is coming off a solid performance to place 2nd behind Slow Down Andy by 4 ¾ lengths and 1 ½ lengths ahead of Creative Peak for a $61,000 prize.

This was after finishing 4th in the $100,000 I’m Smokin Stakes. His workouts have been in good order, and should perform the best today.
