Saratoga Selections for August 6, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

We grinded out a profit at Saratoga with a winner on Naughty Prince. While there was a scratch and a losing horse, the plus-money from Naughty Prince was good for a profitable day in Saratoga Springs. A race team is going to have a very profitable day on Saturday with the running of the $1,000,000 (Gr. 1) Travers Stakes.

Tiz the Law is currently the favorite and that’s highly unlikely to change by post time. He is also the Kentucky Derby favorite, so all eyes will be on how Tiz the Law performs. Again, it would be in your best interest to get on Tiz the Law if he’s your horse to win the Kentucky Derby. There are future options available for the Derby, so you don’t have to wait.

Saratoga has nine races on the schedule with a total of $495,000 available on Thursday. Just one race on Saturday will offer more than double that, but let’s aim for another profitable day at Saratoga today. There is one $100,000 Grade 3 stakes event on the docket for Thursday. Hopefully we can cash in a bit more than we did yesterday. Head below for our free Saratoga picks for August 6, 2020.

Post Time: 1:10 p.m. EST
Distance: 6 Furlongs
Purse: $38,000

We’ll get started right out of the gate on Thursday afternoon at Saratoga with a $38,000 event in Race 1. Boss Life and Macho Jack are on my shortlist, with respect to Cause I Said So, too. Boss Life has finished 6th, 2nd, 5th, 10th, 5th in his previous five outings. His most disappointing finish was 10th in a $29,000 race on May 28. He showed signs of improvement on July 8 at Keeneland a few weeks ago to finish 5th in a $30,000 race.

His best effort to date was on March 11 to place 2nd in a $30,000 event. Note that Boss Life was leading that race at the ¾ pole, but weakened as he approached the stretch. That was for a mile with Boss Life fading late. This 6-furlong event should be much more manageable for him.

Macho Jack continues to get better in his career, with finishes of 7th, 4th, 2nd. He was a half length behind Grove Daddy on October 26, 2019 in his latest effort in a $27,000 event. He’s clearly coming off a layoff, as he makes his return to the racetrack on Thursday at Saratoga. Macho Jack has been the most impressive horse in the morning going into today.

He was especially quick on July 13 with a recorded time of 1:00.00 at 5 furlongs. Macho Jack should be in the driver’s seat in Race 1. He has shown the most notable improvement over the course of his career out of the other entries in this race, and should find a bold effort on Thursday afternoon.

Post Time: 4:06 p.m. EST
Distance:7 Furlongs
Purse:$33,000

Our next selection at Saratoga is for Race 6, which features an eight-horse field vying for a $33,000 purse. Gesture and Wicked Title could get into a duel in the stretch for the top prize. Also, don’t rule out La Negrita who might be a good outside selection. La Negrita is 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 8th, 2nd in his previous six races. She came 2 ½ lengths short in a $27,000 event on July 5. La Negrita broke well out of the gate, but that wasn’t enough to sustain things over 6 ½ furlongs.

Wicked Title is 1 for 7 in his career with an appearance in the Miss Grillo Stakes (Gr. 2) on September 29, 2019. That has been by far her toughest race and he didn’t live up to expectations in that one. Wicked Title finished 7th in that race after winning by a nose on August 22, 2019 at Saratoga for a $75,000 purse. In her most recent performance, Wicked Title finished 3rd for a $34,000 purse.

Since the win last year, the same form hasn’t been present for Wicked Title. It was a bit of false hope, as Wicked Title immediately entered a Grade 2 event following the win. From there, Wicked Title has progressively been entering smaller events ever since. She enters a winnable event on Thursday afternoon at Saratoga. If she can revert back to last year’s form then a win is going to be very reachable. However, we haven’t seen it in a while from him, and she must contend with the dangerous Gesture.

Gesture is 1 for 4 and coming off two strong performances on April 22 and June 10 in Florida. She finished 1st by 10 ¾ lengths in a blowout in April, and then followed up for 2nd to lose by 4 lengths on June 10. The competition level isn’t too stiff for Gesture in this one. With Wicked Title failing to find good form recently, Gesture should be able to waltz to a win in Race 6.

Race 8 – Schuylerville Stakes

(1) Fresco
+250 (5/2)
(2) Stuy Town Baby
+2000 (20/1)
(3) Zipalong
+1500 (15/1)
(4) Turbo Drive
+450 (9/2)
(5) Dream Bigger
+200 (2/1)
(6) Jolting Joe
+180 (9/5)

Post Time: 5:14 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse: $100,000

The (Gr. 3) $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes is the feature race of the day at Saratoga. There are three strong horses entered into this turf event, with Jolting Joe, Dream Bigger, and Fresco all in the conversation. Jolting Joe is your morning-line favorite from the No. 6 post position. He is winless in his four-race career, but has been close in all four performances.

Jolting Joe went 2nd in all outings, including in the Armed Forces Stakes (Black Type) on September 28, 2019. In his most recent effort, Jolting Joe finished 2nd in a $37,000 event on July 25 following a layoff. There isn’t much turnaround time for Jolting Joe, as he’s back out for Thursday. I think there’s better value out there.

Dream Bigger is 3 for 8 in his career, all of which were stakes wins for the colt. He won the $204,713 New York Breeders’ Futurity (Black Type) on September 30, 2019, followed up with a win in the $100,000 Notebook Stakes (Black Type) on November 17, 2019, and then a win in the $100,000 Damon Runyon Stakes (Black Type).

He’s finished in the top-3 in all eight of the races in his career. It’d be foolish to assume that Dream Bigger won’t be close to the wire. In his most recent outing, Dream Bigger finished 3rd in the $100,000 Mike Lee Stakes (Black Type) on June 14. He hit the workout trail on July 26 and August 2 with times of 1:04.00 and 1:01.88 at 5 furlongs.

Fresco isn’t getting as much love on the morning-line, but is a serious contender. He is coming off an impressive outing in the $100,000 New York Stallion Series Stakes (Black Type) by 1 ¾ lengths on July 23. Leading up to that race, Fresco placed 2nd in a loss by a nose against Silky Blue at the wire. He continues to showcase nice improvements, finishing 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 1st in his career. Fresco is a horse that will likely be discounted by the public, but continues to get better and is in the best form at the moment.
