Tampa Bay Downs Pick 3 Selections for April 29, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

Our parimutuel horse racing betting series returns on Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs. BetOnline and Tampa Bay Downs are offering a Pick 3 card today, so we’re going to take a look and do the best that we can. There is not a Pick 5 being offered, but there is a Pick 4 for Race 2 to 5, and Race 5 to 8 at BetOnline.

Keep in mind that you must first select the Race # to have the option. For instance, if you want to play the Pick 4 starting with Race 5, then click on Race 5 and the Pick 4 button will appear. If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, just think of it as a parlay pool. All 3, 4, 5, or even 6 selections must be correct to win.

The pool money will be split up among the winners. In other words, if there’s some upsets and you happened to pick them, then you’re going to be in for a bigger payout. Naturally, less people will go with the upsets, so that’d be a nice return for your bet. It’s an attractive option for people who want to take a little money and try to turn it into a lot. I try to find some balance on my tickets. Head below for our free Tampa Bay Downs Pick 3 selections for April 29, 2020.

Post Time: 1:00 p.m. EST
Distance: 6 Furlongs

We’ll get started with our Pick 3 selections at 1:00 p.m. EST at Tampa Bay Downs. The racecard will begin with a ten-horse field competing for a $10,000 purse. If you’re searching for a big payout, you’re going to be looking at Red Rose Cat and Sterling General. Sterling General is likely to lose as the biggest underdog in the event.
You would be backing a horse that has won 7 races in his career. However, he’s been severely overmatched recently, and hasn’t finished better than 6th in his previous five races. Sterling General finished 8th, 7th, 6th, 9th, 8th.

Red Rose Cat has been running into issues as well and might be a worse bet over Sterling General. He’s gone 10, DNF, 5th, 5th in his last four outings. He notched a win six starts ago, but that was on March 16, 2018. Unlikely to be much of a factor and should fade away. If you’re looking for an upset bet, there’s probably better options in this race.

I’m looking at Solitary Jack from the No. 3 post as a nice upset option. Solitary Jack has won 4 of 13 races in his career, and was looking for a hat-trick before getting denied in his last bid. That said, it was the first start for Solitary Jack in a while and he could have been rusty. He finished 9th on April 8. Prior to that, Solitary Jack won 3 of 5 outings.

Young American and The Great Loudini will likely duel for the win in Race 1. Young American will be the most popular horse to bet in this race. Young American has shown in three of his last five races. He’s registered 7 wins in a total of 53 career races. His last win was on October 16, 2019 at Thistledown.

The Great Loudini has been close recently and consistently finishing near the front, but unable to do better than 2nd on March 15. He had a late push in that one, as The Great Loudini had some kick from 6th at the ½ pole to 2nd at the wire. He followed it up with another respectable effort for 3rd on April 8. This is a toss-up race. The public will go with Young American, so consider The Great Loudini for a better payout.

Race 2

(1) Justcuzifeellikeit
+2000 (20/1)
(2) Mr. Quality
+250 (5/2)
(3) Burning Bright
+500 (5/1)
(4) Mediate
+600 (6/1)
(5) Accessible
+100 (1/1)
(6) Carl G
+600 (6/1)

Post Time: 1:30 p.m. EST
Distance:1 Mile 40 Yards

Six horses will run a mile and 40 yards for a tidy $20,000 purse. The only real longshot in this race is Justcuzifeellikeit. There will be people that take a shot at Justcuzifeellikeit as they try to beef up their ticket. Having said that, there’s always people who play these tickets that blindly take the biggest underdog. Justcuzifeellikeit has appeared in four races and finished 7th, 10th, 8th, and 5th most recently. There has to be some better results for him soon, but it’s unlikely going to happen today.

Mr. Quality and Accessible are the most likely to win here, according to the odds, but if you’re going to take Mr. Quality at +250, I’d rather take a shot on Burning Bright at +500. Burning Bright has raced in only one race and finished 10th, but you’re getting better odds than Mr. Quality who will likely falter down the stretch. Mr. Quality has gone 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th in his career. That’s not going to pay the bills for his owner.

Accessible has been coming close, and could easily have three wins in four races in his career by now. Instead, Accessible has placed three times and is still searching for his first win. There’s a good chance that it comes today at Tampa Bay Downs. Accessible has placed in 2nd in his last two outings on March 14 and April 4.

Impressive drive in his last appearance, as he had plenty of kick in the homestretch. Accessible was 7th at the ½ pole and finished 2nd. If that race was longer than 7 furlongs, he likely wins. It was the same case at 1 mile on April 4, with Accessible pushing hard in the homestretch. The extra 40 yards should payoff for Accessible in this one. People will put Accessible on plenty of tickets, but he’s the most logical choice.

There’s only one big underdog in Race 2, but you’ll find a few in Race 3. Classy Woman is a winner in 2 out of 26 career races. She’s gone winless in 12 straight races, and has shown in two of her last eight events. Steelin Magnolias is a winner in 3 out of 13 outings, but hasn’t shown much fight recently. She has finished 5th, 5th, 11th in her last three races. Steelin Magnolias was way overmatched in the Honey Fox Stakes on February 29. She was looking great in the summer, as Steelin Magnolias won two of three races and placed in another before slowing down.

Surprise Again has 2 wins in 12 races, with a win not too long ago on February 8. She was a winner by a nose over War Rose with an impressive surge in the homestretch to overtake the lead. She went into the ¾ mark of the race in 8th and proved to have the most in her for the homestretch. Surprise Again and Bramble Queen might be good upset picks. Bramble Queen returns to the mix after sitting out since October. In her most recent outing on October 18, 2019, Bramble Queen was sharp with a win by 1 ¼ lengths. It was the fourth time in five races Bramble Queen showed in. Bramble Queen has won 7 out of 23 races for a fairly nice career on the track. If she comes back in the same form as she had in October then she’ll be in the mix here.

She’ll have to watch out for Wish Upon, who is dropping down a class after finishing 6th in a stakes event at the Hillsborough Stakes. She was previously a winner at Tampa Bay Downs on February 5, though that was only a five-horse race. She’s won 6 races in 23 races in her career for just about the same success overall as Bramble Queen. Passing Out will likely press and threaten in this event. She’s a winner in 2 of 6 races in her career and has shown in four of them. In her last outing, Passing Out was 3rd at Aqueduct on November 15, 2019. I’d go for the big win here and complete your Pick 3 with Bramble Queen who is getting overlooked.
