It’s Christmas Eve and the betting menu is pretty quiet every year on the calendar. This is usually Hawaii Bowl time, but that game was cancelled because of Covid-19. However, Hawaii will still be playing in a bowl game on Christmas Eve in the New Mexico Bowl. So there’s that, and not much else. Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs to the rescue, though. Florida’s Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs are both racing on Thursday to cure the gambling blues on Christmas Eve. We have the Rainbow Pick 6 and Pick 5 covered at Gulfstream Park today. As far as Tampa Bay Downs is concerned, I’m going to look for some single winners in Tampa.
Tampa Bay Downs is scheduled to hold nine races on Thursday. A total of $143,850 in prize money is up for grabs in Tampa. Yesterday was a very nice day at Gulfstream Park and Mountaineer Park. There was only one loss on the card for a 5-1 day on Wednesday. That is what we would call a profitable day. Head below for our free Tampa Bay Downs picks for December 24, 2020.

Race 6 at Tampa Bay Downs is for a $27,500 purse, which is the feature race of the day in Tampa. Zarella and Diamond Ore are horses to pay attention to in this event. Zarella has finished 2nd, 7th, 2nd in her career so far. Two out of three races in the top-2 isn’t a bad start for Zarella at all. Zarella placed 2nd behind My Boss Lady by 2 ½ lengths in a $22,000 event. In her most recent performance, Zarella placed 2nd behind Tap Dance Fever by 7 ¼ lengths in a $26,000 event. That was an impressive performance by Zarella and the same form should certainly put her in the mix for the top prize in Race 6.
Diamond Ore has finished 3rd, 5th, 2nd in her career, and is looking to finally break through on Thursday. A mile and 40 yards should certainly benefit Diamond Ore in this spot. She is coming off an encouraging performance on November 14 at Woodbine in Toronto. Diamond Ore finished a half length behind Gote Go for a $126,800 purse. This is by far the easiest assignment for Diamond Ore in her career. Preceding that 2nd place finish, Diamond Ore was 5th for another $126,800 purse. She showed 3rd as a first-time runner on September 26 in the same class. A drop down to $27,500 should help her out immensely. Diamond Ore is a $750,000 horse expected to take care of this level of competition on Thursday.

Race 7 covers a mile on the turf for a $22,750 purse. Made My Day and Kendama should run well in this mile event on the grass. Made My Day is 1 for 7 in his career, and showed that he’s worth something on October 1. He beat Forward Curve by a head over Forward Curve for a $38,000 purse in that race. Made My Day didn’t come back in strong form, though.
He finished 6th at Aqueduct after the win at Belmont Park. This was in a $55,000 race, so perhaps too tough for him. Made My Day is well down in class and is looking confident in morning workouts. He completed 4 furlongs in 49.20 and 49.60 seconds in December. This looks like a winnable event for Made My Day on Thursday.
Kendama is 1 for 5 in his career. He was a winner on July 10 over Super E by a neck for a $49,840 purse. However, since then, Kendama has been unable to get back to the winner’s circle. Kendama has gone 2nd, 6th, 3rd since. He showed 3rd on October 9 for a $87,500 purse. Kendama moves way down the class scale and enters a $22,750 event today. This is a very possible winning run for Kendama.

We will wrap up the day at Race 8 with a mile and 40-yard race on the main track. Super Shoes and Mozano should be in the mix in the stretch of this race. Super Shoes showed improvement in his most recent performance after going 6th, 5th, 8th, 10th in his first four races. He came back on December 11 to show 3rd for the first time in his career. That was a promising run by Super Shoes, as he got into the money in a $10,200 event. Expect Super Shoes to likely hang around in the stretch with a chance to strike. That said, he’s likely going to find it difficult to overtake Mozano for a win in this event.
Mozano should be the one opponent to keep the pressure on this afternoon. While he might be winless in 15-career races, Mozano has been running well of late. Mozano has finished in the top-3 in six of his previous seven performances. Mozano showed 3rd in his most recent outing on December 12. He finished a neck and nose behind the winner, so it was really close at the wire for a $10,200 purse. Mozano just needed a little more in him to get to the winner’s circle. Against this competition on Thursday, there is likely a good chance that he gets it done.
