BetOnline has a nice card for a weekday on Wednesday with seven active racecourses available for wagering. The most notable has to be Gulfstream Park, which is the home of the Pegasus World Cup in just a couple of weeks. The $3,000,000 Grade 1 is the biggest race since the Breeders’ Cup Classic. It should be a thrilling event that comes with Saudi Cup implications.
Races with big implications will start before the Pegasus, though. The Road to the Kentucky Derby begins at Fair Grounds in Louisiana on Saturday. After an October Kentucky Derby in 2020, there is a quick turn around to the next Derby in 2021. With the Saudi Cup in February, there’s only a few months that separates the two star studded events.
If you are looking for some more horse racing picks in the evening, consider checking out our Penn National Race Course page. Tampa Bay Downs has nine events worth a total of $131,700 in Florida on Wednesday. If you’re looking for horse racing picks at Tampa Bay Downs, you’ve come to the right place. Head below for our free Tampa Bay Downs picks for January 13, 2021.

Let’s get started at Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday afternoon with Race 3. This is the feature race at Tampa Bay Downs, which comes with a $19,950 purse. Eight horses will compete for the top prize in this event. Alpha Chi Rho and Jeha should have a good run at the win in this one. Alpha Chi Rho is 1 for 5 in his career, with his win on July 31 at Charles Town. He beat Da Bozak by 1 ¾ lengths in a $27,000 event to get the win in West Virginia.
Alpha Chi Rho came back to finish 6th, 2nd, 5th in his next three performances. In his most recent showing, he finished 5th on January 4 in a $41,000 purse. That was too tough, but this is going to be a lot easier with Alpha Chi Rho down well in class. Prior to that outing, Alpha Chi Rho placed 2nd behind Palatial Times by 1 ¼ lengths in a $41,000 race. If he can gain traction from the outside, then he’s going to get close again.
Jeha should be tough to beat from the No. 2 post position. Jeha is 5th, 6th, 1st and coming off a win on December 26 at Tampa Bay Downs. He beat Van by 1 ½ lengths for a $15,350 prize. He’s in the best form of his career at the moment, including good workouts in the morning. Jeha completed a couple of 4-furlong workouts in 49.20 and 49.80 seconds. I’m on Jeha to get the win in Race 3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Race 8 should be a good one at Tampa Bay Downs. This is a 6-furlong event for a $14,850 purse on Wednesday in Tampa. The biggest battle is likely going to come from the outside between Shall Return and Lights Down Low. Both are on my shortlist to win Race 8. Shall Return is 4 for 23 in her career, with her most recent win on July 10.
She beat Baby Ice by 3 lengths in that $19,000 event, and then went 2nd, 2nd, 3rd in three races since. In her most recent outing, Shall Return showed 3rd in a $16,350 outing. She will slide further down in class today looking to find a trip to the winner’s circle. A win shouldn’t be too far out of the equation for Shall Return on these terms.
Moving further down to the end of the gate, Lights Down Low, should give Shall Return a challenge in the stretch. Lights Down Low is 6 for 29 in her career and in the best form right now. She is looking for a hat-trick after winning on December 4 and December 23. In the first win, Lights Down Low defeated Ghosted by a neck in a $10,200 event, and then followed up to win a $13,100 race by a half length over Ledecky as the betting favorite.
Lights Down Low inches up in class for this assignment on Wednesday. She continues to run in good form. Lights Down Low recently completed a 3-furlong workout with a time of 36.20 seconds on January 7. This horse was a $100,000 purchase in April of 2018. She was expected to be competing for bigger purses than this class. Nevertheless, Lights Down Low is getting a nice price here and is going to be worth a look in a mini upset in Race 8.
