We have five race tracks on the horse racing card at BetOnline on Tuesday afternoon. There is no night racing today, but enough action in the afternoon to wet your appetite. It would have been nice to have Charles Town or Mountaineer Park running under the lights in West Virginia, though. The stakes racing is quiet this week, but one final big stakes race on the weekend before the Kentucky Derby. The $1,000,000 Arkansas Derby (Gr. 1) is scheduled for Saturday at Oaklawn Park. Along with a million in prize money, there are 100 points going to the winning team. Oaklawn Park has another pretty big race on Saturday with the running of the $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (Gr. 3).

There isn’t anything of the sort on Tuesday, but hopefully some winners regardless. We are looking at Will Rogers Downs and Turf Paradise on Tuesday afternoon. Turf Paradise has a modest pool of $78,600 available, though a nice sample size of 12 races to handicap. Head below for our free Turf Paradise picks for April 6, 2021.
Race 10
Post Time: 4:38 p.m. CST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$10,000
We will open the day late in the afternoon in the desert. This is a short 4 ½ furlong race for a $10,000 purse. I’m high on Six Ninety One and Quality Line to come through with a chance to win this event. Six Ninety One has been successful throughout his career, finding the winner’s circle eight times in 33 attempts. Half of those wins have come since last summer.
He has gone 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 1st in his previous seven performances. Six Ninety One is in good form at the moment and coming off a sharp win on March 26. He beat Joe Jackson by a neck for a $9,500 purse in that performance. It was close with Six Ninety One holding and winning the duel. Preceding that win, Six Ninety One finished 4th on March 16 in a $11,000 event. The small class drop helped immensely.
Quality Line is on a major heater at the moment, with four straight wins from January 20 to March 25. He hasn’t finished outside of the top-2 since December 4, 2020. Quality Line is coming off a 1 ¼ length win over Texas Long Bow for a $10,000 purse. This was after Quality Line defeated Blak It by 1 length for a $11,000 prize. The best value is certainly present with Quality Line on Tuesday afternoon.
Race 11
Post Time: 5:06 p.m. PST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$8,800
In Race 11 we have a $8,800 event on the dirt covering 6 ½ furlongs. Nine horses are expected to participate, with Latigo Rio and Union Brother circled on my shortlist. Latigo Rio is 2 for 20 in his career and trying to find the winner’s circle for the first time since September 20.
He’s gone winless in seven straight performances, showing 3rd in back-to-back performances on March 9 and March 26. In the first of those two races, Latigo Rigo showed 3rd for a $8,640 purse. He did just about the same in the next, finishing ahead of seven other runners to get into the money again for a $8,800 purse.
Union Brother is going to have a say in the stretch and likely the best chance to block Latigo Rio from a win. Union Brother is in some great form recently, finishing top-2 in five straight performances. He finally broke through for a win on March 26 after knocking hard at the wire. Union Brother beat Dandy Van by 6 ½ lengths for an easy win in a $8,500 event. That would be more than enough here.
Race 12
Post Time: 5:34 p.m. PST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles
Purse:$11,000
In the final selection at Turf Paradise, we’ll close the day out with a 1 ⅛ mile event for a $11,000 purse. Lifeline and Thorn Hill Cat should be involved in the stretch run for the win. Thorn Hill Cat is 8 for 46 in his career, with a strong showing most recently to win by 1 ¾ lengths for a $11,000 purse. It ended a seven-race winless drought for Thorn Hill Cat.
Thorn Hill Cat has finished 2nd, 5th, 1st in his previous three outings. He placed 2nd behind Mad At Money by a neck in a $11,000 race on February 23, before finishing 5th in his next assignment on March 9 for a $11,000 purse, and then the win. If Thorn Hill Cat shows up in the same form as he had for the winning run, then expect a successful day on Tuesday. However, Lifeline should be there to provide plenty of resistance.
Lifeline, who beat Thorn Hill Cat on March 9, placing 2nd, should prove to be a tough opponent. Lifeline is a three-time winner in 26 attempts. He has been coming close recently, placing 2nd in back-to-back events. Lifeline placed behind Mr. Magico by a nose on March 9 for a $11,000 purse. He was 1 ½ lengths and a neck ahead of Thorn Hill Cat in that event. Lifeline returned on March 19 to miss out by 1 ¼ lengths in another encouraging effort. If he keeps plugging away, a win shouldn’t be too far away.
