There are four active race tracks available at BetOnline on Tuesday. It isn’t a full card, but there are thoroughbreds and even some quarter horse tracks to delve into today. If you are looking for the quarter horses, you can go to Louisiana Downs, where they have seven races on the card. Quarter horse racing can be tough to handicap, though it may be one of the biggest rushes in sports betting. Drag racing is tough to find to bet on, but if you’re into that kind of thing, quarter horses are basically drag racing on horses. The race is over in seconds. With quarter horses, I think you have to pick your spots even more than thoroughbreds. It can be incredibly random, but highly entertaining to go and watch as a spectator.
Turf Paradise, Parx, and Turf Paradise all have thoroughbreds racing on Tuesday. We have Turf Paradise covered with a couple of selections, and looking to attack Turf Paradise in the desert as well. Turf Paradise had to cancel a racecard last week as a result of high winds and a wintery mix. It was a rare bad weather day in Phoenix, but the skies are clear ahead with temperatures a beautiful 70-80 degrees. Turf Paradise has nine races scheduled with a total of $117,160 in prize money for this card on Tuesday. Check out our Delta Downs page for more horse racing picks on Tuesday. Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Race 1 is a $19,560 event on the main track across 5 ½ furlongs. The day starts at Turf Paradise with eight horses running on the dirt. Stormy Gale and Smooth Papa have solid claims in this event. Stormy Gale has appeared in five events, finishing 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 7th, 5th in her career. She placed 2nd in her first outing, a $9,700 event, and has just kind of faded off. In her most recent performance, Stormy Gale finished 5th in a $16,300 assignment.
It wasn’t a terrible run, but not enough to get into the money. Stormy Gale races in a $19,560 event in this one. Higher class, but I don’t see the competition level being any tougher. In fact, it could be easier for the most part. Smooth Papa should give Stormy Gale problems in this one, but other than that, Stormy Gale should be able to get into the money in Race 1. Smooth Papa enters this one in the best form out of this field.
Smooth Papa enters with three races on his resume. He’s finished 4th, 2nd, 6th in his last three performances. In his best effort, Smooth Papa placed 2nd behind Tightrope by ¾ lengths in a $22,000 event. He came back on January 21 to finish 6th in a discouraging effort. Against this field on Tuesday, though, there shouldn’t be much to be concerned with. Anything less than a win here would be disappointing for Smooth Papa.

Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
We turn to the next race at Turf Paradise, which is a 4 ½ event on the main track. This could be a duel between Sashaying Sis and Old Toy in the stretch. That would not be the least bit surprising. Sashaying Sis is coming off a nice win on January 6 to beat Who’s the Diva Now in a $9,000 event. It was an impressive 4 ¼ length win for Sashaying Sis.
This was after struggling to get up front. She finished 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th leading up to that. Prior to the win, Sashaying Sis finished 9th in a $6,000 event. That was an encouraging bounce-back performance for Sashaying Sis after going nowhere for a few months. If Sashaying Sis continues going in the right direction, then a win seems reasonable in this spot.
Old Toy should be able to pressure Sashaying Sis from the outside in this one. It’s only 4 ½ furlongs, though, so Old Toy can’t afford to have a slow start in this one. If she breaks well out of the gate, then Old Toy is going to be right there in the stretch. Old Toy is 9 for 82 in her career, and feeling confident recently. She is in good form right now with four straight performances in the top-3, going 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st.
She struck in her most recent outing on January 8 for a 1 length win at the $10,000 level. Old Toy has also looked good in the morning of late, with a time of 48 seconds at 4 furlongs. The value appears to be with Old Toy. Despite starting from the outside, I think she can get this done.

Race 4 is our final selection at Turf Paradise on Tuesday afternoon. It should be a race with good value on the board. Princess of Cairo and Smart Set should run well in the feature event at Turf Paradise. Smart Set is in search of a hat-trick after wins on June 27 and November 6. She beat Rank and File by 5 ¾ lengths in a $29,000 event at 5 furlongs, and then came back on November 6 to win again, this time a 1 ¼ length win as an underdog for a $23,000 purse as an underdog. The concern for Smart Set is that she has never entered a race at this distance. This event is a mile, so that could bother her. But if it doesn’t, Smart Set has a good chance of scoring a win in Race 4.
Princess of Cairo has appeared in stakes races, including the $50,000 BC Cup Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes on August 9, and then the $40,000 Washington Oaks on September 3. She showed 3rd in the first outing, and then won the $40,000 assignment by 3 ¾ lengths. Princess of Cairo went to Del Mar in November for a big test, though that didn’t go too well, finishing 8th in a $61,000 event. Despite that outing, Princess of Cairo looked great on the workout track recently. She completed 4 furlongs in 47.20 seconds on January 14. Unlike Smart Set, she has experience at longer distances. If all goes well, Princess of Cairo should be able to fend off her rivals.
