There is action available on Monday to get the week started on the racetrack. BetOnline has three courses open for racing today. If you are heading out to any of the racecourses, be sure to check on any restrictions that they have in place. The biggest complaint right now has to be a limited restaurant selection, as a lot of tracks aren’t operating at full capacity. I know that Turf Paradise in Phoenix is not selling any food or drinks at the moment, so considering having a bite before you head out. This is unless something has changed from a week ago. Turf Paradise is one of three tracks with Monday cards.
We are going to start our day at Turf Paradise in the desert on Monday. Turf Paradise has a total of ten races expected to be run for $108,400 in prize money. You can also locate our horse racing page for more picks today and for the rest of the week. Head below for our free Turf Paradise picks for February 22, 2021.

Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Our first selection at Turf Paradise is a $10,000 event on the dirt covering 5 ½ furlongs. Proof It and Cool Edge should run well in this one. Proof It is the morning-line favorite on the inside rail out of the gate. Overall, he is 3 for 17 in his career, failing to win since May 12, 2019. Proof It has been winless in seven straight outings.
In his previous four entries, he has finished 5th, 4th, 6th, 6th. That could obviously be much better for Proof It. He was 6th in his most recent assignment on February 3 in a $17,000 event. That was enough running bad, and Proof It will be eased in class to a $10,000 race on Monday. Expect a much better finish for Proof It on these terms.
Cool Edge will certainly give Proof It a big challenge, though. He is 4 for 12 in his career and had some success recently. Cool Edge’s hat trick bid was stopped February 8. A back-to-back winner on January 5 and January 26, Cool Edge could return to that form today.
In the first of those two wins, Cool Edge beat Parolee by 3 ¾ lengths in a $8,800 event. He was able to follow up in his next race to beat Valentine Divine by a half length in a $9,000 race in wire-to-wire fashion. His hat-trick bid was derailed on February 8 after finishing 7th in a $11,000 event. Back down slightly in class, I like Cool Edge to get back on a winning path.

Race 4 is a 6-furlong event on the dirt for a $8,800 purse. Lady Sunset and Billy K are held in high regard on my shortlist. It’s hard to ignore the consistency of Lady Sunset, and she might just need to catch a break to find a lane to the winner’s circle.
She is 2 for 13 in her career, which doesn’t seem great, but running well recently to go 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd in her previous four four outings. In her latest win, she beat We Outta Here by 3 ½ lengths in a $5,008 event. Lady Sunset placed 2nd behind Deep ‘n’ It by 4 ½ lengths in a $6,300 race on November 2 in her most recent showing.
Following a layoff, Lady Sunset is back and transferring from Grants Pass to Turf Paradise. Tougher competitions awaits, but if she runs how she did in workouts, then you have to give her a chance. Lady Sunset was timed at 48, 46.80, and 48.40 seconds at 4 furlongs in prep work for today.
Billy K is back in a manageable class after finishing 4th and 5th in her last two. She won on December 17 in a $17,000 event over Well Done Sally by 4 lengths. Nice effort, but Billy K faltered at Santa Anita Park up in class. In her most recent, she finished 4th in a $24,000 race. This is well down in class, and much easier of an assignment. If Billy K shows up, she should clear in the stretch.

In our final selection at Turf Paradise on Monday, we will check out what Race 5 has in store. 12 horses are expected to run in this event, with Newell and Boisterous Rascal contenders to get the win in this race. Boisterous Rascal is winless in nine races in his career, but looked the part on February 11.
For the first time in his career, Boisterous Rascal placed 2nd, finishing behind Fabulous Floyd by 3 ¼ lengths in a $8,000 event. He finally found a class that he can compete in and was wise to sign up for another $8,000 race for Monday. If Boisterous Rascal shows any improvement, then he should be able to find a win.
Newell is winless in eight-carer races, and is dropping classes today. After placing 2nd on November 12, Newell has struggled to be involved in the stretch again. He placed 2nd behind Gentleman’s Secret by 3 lengths, and then faded off in his next two performances. Newell was in great form in a recent workout on February 2, with a recorded time of 46.40 seconds at 4 furlongs. I will take my chances on Newell at 7/2 on the morning-line from the inside rail.
