Back to the track on Tuesday after a less than profitable day to start the week. If you don’t like heavy variance, then horse racing is not going to be the game for you. One day can be a mess followed by a huge win. You can extrapolate that for an entire week or month if you’d like. Some months can be very good, and conversely, the opposite. I never really had a month that stood out as bad in 2020.
Along with some big multi wins, we chipped away at the singles for a profit. BetOnline offers a risk-free $25.00 bet if you’re interested in getting started with horse racing. Note that this is only good for horse racing. You are also eligible for a 7% cash-back bonus on any losses suffered. We will open the day on Tuesday at Turf Paradise in Phoenix.
Turf Paradise is active on Tuesday with a total purse of $87,100 available in prize money today. The Phoenix based track went through multiple delays to get to this winter meet. It had nothing to do with Covid-19 either, or at least if you are listening to the horsemen. They believed the delay was because of a simulcast dispute in the state.
The horsemen and Turf Paradise recently came to an agreement and a meet from January to May was agreed upon. They were originally supposed to begin racing in October. A lot of horses have transferred to Turf Paradise because of the closure at Golden Gate Fields. There are currently approximately 1,200 horses on site. Limited attendance is permitted for racing fans. Head below for our free Turf Paradise picks for January 5, 2021.

Turf Paradise is a mixed card on Tuesday with quarter horse and thoroughbred racing. Our first selection is a quarter horse race for a modest purse of $3,500. Eight horses are scheduled to run 300 yards on the dirt.
Deal a Corona and Mae Capone should have a good run at the top prize in this sprint. Deal a Corona was impressive in Albuquerque on August 30. She dueled against Eagles Dragon and just missed out at the wire. She completed 400 yards in 19.958 seconds. Deal a Corona completed a 220-yard workout in 11.93 seconds on December 16.
Mae Capone has been in nice form going into Tuesday. She has appeared in five races, having finished 4th, 6th, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd. In her most recent outing, Mae Capone showed 3rd in a $13,700 event with a time of 13.466 seconds in 250 yards.
Prior to that run, she placed 2nd with a time of 18.062 seconds at 350 yards, and 2nd in another outing on October 24 with a time of 17.874 seconds at 350 yards following a late rally for a $35,000 purse in the Albuquerque Juvenile Stakes. In a recent workout, she edged Deal a Corona out with a time of 11.89 seconds at 220 yards. I will give the edge to Mae Capone and what should be an entertaining quarter horse dash.

Race 5 is a thoroughbred event for a $18,000 purse on the dirt. Superduty Justice and Beckham James are on my shortlist of horses to pay attention to on Tuesday. Superduty Justice showed nice improvement from his debut on October 12. The young colt finished 5th in a $23,000 race, and then placed 2nd in his next outing on November 12 by 2 lengths behind Quipo, though that was only for a $10,500 purse.
In any case, you have to feel confident in Superduty Justice if he continues to show improvement. Beckham James is winless four races in his career, but continues to show nice strides. After debuting in 7th on October 14, Beckham James has finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd. He looked good in his most recent performance to place 2nd behind Texas Bad Boy by 2 lengths for a $29,000 purse. This is a serious drop down in class despite that solid performance. Expect the $70,000 Beckham to cash in with a win tonight.

The feature race at Turf Paradise is a $27,500 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Seven horses are expected to participate, with Killarney Lass and Cashcheckorcharge likely to lead the way. Killarney Lass has finished 7 for 19 in her career, and in solid form recently. She has finished 1st, 4th, 1st, 3rd in her previous four outings.
Killarney Lass won the $40,000 Boeing Stakes over Alittlelesstalk by 5 furlongs. Then Killarney Lass followed up to show 3rd in the $40,000 Emerald Distaff Handicap (Black Type) on September 10. In a $27,500 event down in class, you have to expect Killarney Lass to run well here.
Cashcheckerorcharge has been on fire to open her career going 5 for 7. She was on a massive run with four straight wins, and won her most recent outing on December 4. Cashcheckerorcharge beat Cherished by 2 ½ lengths in a $32,000 event. That was a relatively easy win for Cashcheckerorcharge, and this should be about the same difficult or a bit simpler on Tuesday. I will support Cashcheckerorcharge for the win at a nice morning-line price.
