It’s a big horse racing day with stakes racing throughout the country. There are several racecourses putting on notable graded races worth noting. The biggest of the bunch are at Saratoga in New York this afternoon.
Saratoga has a total of 12 races worth $3,563,000 on Saturday afternoon. Let’s get to our best Saratoga picks below. We will also have Del Mar picks in California for later in the day.
Race 3 is a $100,000 event covering 4 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Expect solid work from Khali Magic and Miss Alacrity on these terms at Saratoga.
Miss Alacrity is 2 for 6 and has finished 4th, 5th, 8th, 4th, 1st, 1st in six career starts. She won back-to-back assignments, but has been held out of the winner’s circle since then.
In her latest outing, Miss Alacrity finished 4th for an $85,000 purse. That was fine and she can probably get involved with a similar effort, but more will be required for a win.
Khali Magic has 4 wins in 16 attempts, finishing 1st, 4th, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd in her previous five attempts. She is coming on nicely and a win on July 15.
The filly defeated Mosienko by 3 ¼ lengths in a $100,000 event. That was a nice attempt after finishing 4th at Belmont Park on June 17.
Before that start on June 17, Khali Magic placed 2nd behind Bank On Anna by a half-length. In this $100,000 event against a beatable field, Khali Magic should be tough to beat.
Race 8 should be a good one between Saint Tapit and Money Supply. The eighth is a $115,000 allowance race covering 7 furlongs on the dirt.
Consider Saint Tapit after having a strong debut on June 26 at Belmont Park. The colt was in good form, with a 4 length win over Golden Alchemist for a $90,000 purse.
That was a big first-time trip after some decent workouts. If Saint Tapit can hold this form, expect her to be in the mix at the wire.
Money Supply is a serious value play in Race 8. He’s finished 5th, 3rd, 5th, 1st in four career starts. In first attempt, Money Supply was a winner with a 2 length $34,000 win.
That was too easy at Tampa Bay Downs for this $400,000 colt. He stepped up considerably in class. In his most recent start, Money Supply finished 5th at Churchill Downs in a $127,000 event on June 19.
That was too tough, though expect much better after some promising workouts and a cut in class. She was clocked in July with a time of 47.40 and 47.89 seconds at 4 furlongs. There is value to be had on No. 7.
Race 10 – Whitney Stakes
The Whitney Stakes (Gr. 1) is the most important race on Saturday in North America. Not only does this race come with a $1,000,000 purse, but it’s a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race for a spot at Keeneland in November.
Olympiad and Life Is Good should have a presence late in this assignment. William Mott has a good one with Olympiad and has the tools to win the Whitney.
Olympiad is on a heater with five straight wins going into the Whitney. Four of those wins were graded races, including his most recent on July 2 at Churchill Downs.
That was the biggest win of his career, with a 2 ¼ length win in the $750,000 Stephen Foster Stakes (Gr. 2). He kicked in going into the stretch and drew free from Americanrevolution by 2 ¼ lengths at the wire.
He must be considered to win given his form. Life Is Good won’t go down quietly, though. The Todd Pletcher trainee is in incredible form as well.

Life Is Good is 7 for 9, with wins in four of his previous five attempts. His only loss is in the Dubai World Cup on March 26. This was following a 3 ¼ length win over Knicks Go in the $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup (Gr. 1) at Gulfstream in January.
After the loss in Dubai, Life Is Good defeated Speaker’s Conner in the $250,000 John A. Nerud Stakes (Gr. 2) by 5 lengths. Too easy. Back to a stacked field on Saturday in the Whitney.
Life Is Good is probably too good, but it should be a great race at Saratoga.
