Will Rogers Downs Selections for April 29, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re back for another day of racing at Will Rogers Downs before the track goes dark until Monday in Claremore, OK. Will Rogers Downs is smart not to try and compete with the bigger tracks over the weekend. That goes for Fonner Park, who will be racing today as well, with their weekly schedule ending on Wednesday. Gulfstream Park will likely attract the most attention tomorrow and throughout the weekend. Until Santa Anita Park returns to racing, Gulfstream Park will command the biggest betting handles on weekends. And by the time that may happen, some of the other tracks might be ready to open up as well.

The most recent news on Santa Anita Park, as supporters continue to push for racing to resume, is that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors was meeting with personnel to discuss the status of the track. Protestors, which included Bob Baffert, congregated outside of the meeting to put pressure on officials. No word on what the outcome of the meeting was, but we’ll keep you posted. As far as Will Rogers Downs is concerned, there are ten races on the card in Oklahoma today. Head below for our free Will Rogers Downs selections for April 29, 2020.

Distance: 1 Mile

Race 4 is scheduled for a mid-afternoon start at Will Rogers Downs on Wednesday. Eight participants are signed up for the event, which features a purse of $12,540. There are four horses in this event that are likely going to have a tough time here. Flashflood Warning and Pricilla Kay should both probably have odds over +1000, while Rare Poppy and Lucia Gal might find this to be a difficult assignment.

Lucia Gal might have the toughest time of the bunch in this one. She has won 2 races of 29 starts in her career going into Wednesday. Her most recent victory was on June 8, 2019. Since that point, Lucia Gal has gone winless in nine straight events. That’s actually the last time she’s shown as well.

In her last three outings, Lucia Gal has gone 6th, 11th, 4th. Pricilla Kay has a similar winning percentage as Lucia Gal, with 3 wins in 30 races. Her last win was five events ago on November 23, 2019 at Remington Park. It’s the only time she’s shown in her previous ten outings.

Flashflood Warning has the experience over Lucia Gal and Pricilla Kay, though has managed to win just 6 of 58 races. She hasn’t been to the winner’s circle since April 17, 2019, ten races ago. Flashflood Warning has failed to finish better than 5th in her previous six races, which includes two brutal performances on November 9, 2019 and March 24 in her most recent starts. She finished 12th and 10th in those appearances. It’s probable that Flashflood Warning won’t be a contender in this one either.

Frugal Betty and Checkerboard are likely going to be at the front throughout this mile, though. Checkerboard has just 3 wins in 38 races, but had a promising performance in her most recent outing on April 14 to place in 2nd. Drove from 7th at the ¾ pole to 2nd for a solid finish, but was 1 ¼ lengths behind Honest N Lucky for the win.

It was the first time that Checkerboard showed in a race in four races. Maybe that provides a nice springboard into Wednesday. Frugal Betty is going to be a pretty formidable roadblock to a win, though. She has a win in 4 of 14 races and has won three out of her last six outings. Frugal Betty has placed in two out of her three outings, though finished 4th in her most recent race on February 8. This should be an easier task for her. If she comes to the gate wanting to run, Frugal Betty should have the win secured.

Race 7

(1) E Ticket Ride
+1200 (12/1)
(2) Quiet Dawn
+350 (7/2)
(3) Magically Honored
+300 (3/1)
(4) Sheza Rockstar
+200 (2/1)
(5) Come On Sweet Pea
+800 (8/1)
(6) Roses for Doug
+600 (6/1)
(7) Rozafa
+450 (9/2)

Post Time: 4:15 p.m. CST
Distance:1 Mile

Seven horses are registered for Race 7 on Wednesday at Will Rogers Downs. E Ticket Ride gets the inside rail out of the gate, but likely won’t be able to take advantage of inside position. E Ticket Ride’s best performance was on December 11, 2019 at Remington Park. She finished 3rd in that one, but hasn’t shown in four other efforts. In her latest race, E Ticket Ride crossed the line in 5th at Sam Houston Race Park on March 18 before that track was closed to racing.

Roses for Doug should probably be a bigger underdog than the price of +600 indicates. He has been winless in all 11 of his races, and has shown in just two of them. His best performance was on February 18 where he placed in 2nd for the first time in his career. However, instead of building up some momentum, Roses for Doug slipped to 6th in the next race. While Roses for Doug doesn’t have much value, there appears to be some solid value elsewhere.

Quiet Dawn could be a contender in Race 7, at least more of a chance at the win than the morning-line of +350 suggests. While Quiet Dawn is winless in 11 races like Roses for Doug, she’s been getting really close recently and has been showing terrific form. Quiet Dawn placed in each of her last outings on February 16 and April 9. In the February outing, Quiet Dawn barely lost by a half length against Agave Queen. She did a nice job protecting 2nd throughout the race, but couldn’t overtake the winner.

In Quiet Dawn’s most recent outing, she beat out ten other ponies, but was no match for C’Est Mardi who notched the victory by 5 ¼ lengths. Sheza Rockstar has raced in 7 events and is still looking for her first win. She was strong enough to place in her last outing, but finished 6th and 3rd in two prior starts. Sheza Rockstar has gone 11th, 11th, 10th, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 2nd in her career. Magically Honored has gone 9th, 3rd, 7th, 6th, 3rd in her last five outings and is still searching for a win after nine attempts. She has placed in 2nd twice, though that hasn’t happened since October 26, 2019. I’m going to side with the value on Quiet Dawn in Race 7.
