Will Rogers Downs Selections for March 23, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Another day of horse racing on Tuesday at BetOnline through the afternoon. BetOnline has four racecourses available for wagering, one or two better than a typical Tuesday card in the winter. Note that Huntingdon is listed under US tracks, but this is of course not an American facility. Huntingdon is a UK based racetrack, with post time scheduled for around 8:00 a.m. EST. So if you need any early morning action, then Huntingdon has you covered across the pond.

We’re getting closer to the running of the 147th Kentucky Derby on May 1 at Churchill Downs. We have an early preview and predictions for the Kentucky Derby newly posted at TheSportsGeek. We will get started at Will Rogers Downs where they’ll have their second card of the spring meet in 2021. It was a profitable day to get going at Will Rogers on Monday, as two of our three horses arrived in the winner’s circle. Will Rogers Downs has nine races on the schedule worth $124,080 this afternoon in Oklahoma. Head below for our free Will Rogers Downs picks for March 23, 2021.

Post Time: 1:28 p.m. CST

Purse:$13,860

Race 2 is our first selection at Will Rogers Downs on Tuesday afternoon. Sooner Skuta and Lastcallforalcohol should be watched closely in this event. Sooner Skuta transfers from Remington Park to Will Rogers after a couple of tough races at Remington. As a rookie, Sooner Skuta finished 5th in a $36,957 event and 11th in a $36,795 event.

Along with a track transfer, he’s dropping significantly in class. We’re going to have to see a lot more from Sooner Skuta before I have some confidence in his chances, though. This is a wait and see race for Sooner Skuta, though expect him to be much closer at the wire against this competition. Lastcallforalcohol should provide a tough opponent in this race.

Lastcallforalcohol has finished 9th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd in his career, placing 2nd in three straight performances. Expect Lastcallforalcohol to break through with a win soon. He’s coming off a short layoff since December, and has looked excellent in workouts. Lastcallforalcohol placed 2nd on December 8 in a $16,575 event behind Gamma Ray by 4 ¼ lengths. In his most recent workout, he was blazing hot with a time of 47.52 seconds at 4 furlongs. If his form translates on race day, no one should be able to catch Lastcallforalcohol.

(2) LASTCALLFORALCOHOL

Race 3

(1) Drop of Golden Sun
+140 (7/5)
(2) Box Seat
+400 (4/1)
(3) Fly to the Bank
+600 (6/1)
(4) Drc All Inclusive
+180 (8/5)
(5) Caney’s Ghost
+2000 (20/1)

Post Time: 1:56 p.m. CST
Distance:6 Furlongs
Purse:$27,500

Race 3 runs for $27,500 on the dirt track, which is the feature race of the afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Drop of Golden Sun and Drc All Inclusive are likely going to run strong races into the stretch. Drc All Inclusive is 10 for 43 in his career and was flying high with five straight finishes in the top-2 from August 29 to December 18.

He was a winner on December 18 in a $13,200 event over Crazy Legs Hirsch by a half length as a heavy favorite. All Inclusive was unable to follow up in a tougher $27,000 event on January 24. He finished 7th in that race, but it was good experience for him. All Inclusive is going to stay in the same class, but should run a better race than we saw in January. Drop of Golden Sun is likely going to provide a decent challenge from the inside.

Drop of Golden Sun is coming off back-to-back wins in stakes races, and is a top-2 finisher in four straight outings. Overall, he is 7 for 20 in his career, with a win on August 19 in the $50,000 Wally’s Choice Stakes by 3 ¼ lengths and the $100,000 Blair’s Cove Minnesota Turf Stakes by 2 lengths on September 9. The only concern is the layoff, but this looks like an easy return to the track for Drop of Golden Sun. I’d put my support behind the No. 1 horse.

Our Bet
(1) DROP OF GOLDEN SUN

Race 5

(1) Gospel Josy Jan
+800 (8/1)
(2) Favorite Sister
+300 (3/1)
(3) Markantony’squeen
+500 (5/1)
(4) Mystery Star
+350 (7/2)
(5) E Ticket Ride
+100 (1/1)

Post Time: 2:52 p.m. CST
Distance:1 Mile
Purse:$7,150

In Race 5 at Will Rogers Downs, five horses are expected to run a mile for a $7,150 purse. Favorite Sister and E Ticket Ride should put together a couple of solid runs on Tuesday afternoon. Favorite Sister is winless in 20 races, but has been able to find some consistency recently. The mare likely gets a win sooner rather than later if she continues along this path.

Favorite Sister is back for her seasonal run starting today. She’s been off since the summer, which is typical for her. In her most recent attempt on July 20 at Fair Meadows, Favorite Sister showed 3rd in a $6,600 event. More is going to be needed on Tuesday, but this is another weak field with a chance for Favorite Sister to go somewhere close at the wire.

E Ticket Ride is winless in ten-career races, so everyone is looking for a win on their resume today. She finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd in five straight races before regressing on December 21 to 5th. That was in a $13,000 event, so E Ticket Ride is going to see a sizable class drop on Tuesday. Her business has looked in order during workouts leading up to Tuesday. In a winnable situation today, expect E Ticket Ride to draw clear in the stretch and win.
