Angels vs. Astros Pick MLB – June 30th

There wasn’t much doubt if we were going to cash a winner yesterday. The St. Louis Cardinals took advantage of an injury to starting pitcher Jarrod Parker at the midway point and didn’t look back. They poured it on against the hapless Athletics’ bullpen en route to a no doubt 7-2 victory. With a winner on Friday, that makes for another winning weekend regardless of what happens today. That also makes for another successful Saturday, my 7th straight Saturday in the positive! Let’s sweep the weekend now shall we.

Free MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Angels -174 at Houston Astros +155 (Total: 9)

C.J. Wilson (7-5, 3.88 ERA) vs. Lucas Harrell (5-8, 4.84 ERA)

I don’t think there has been a team more up and down like a rollercoaster this year than the Angels. They have been a streaky team that will get up for a little while, and then completely freefall back towards the bottom of a pit. After taking care of the Tigers in Detroit three games straight, I think it is safe to say that they are skyrocketing back upwards. I caught a piece of the Angels on many occasions when they went on a run about a month ago, and I think it may be time to hop back on the money train, for now at least.

I have made money off fading the Astros in the past, and have gotten bitten in the butt doing the same thing. The Astros at one point in the season not that long ago upgraded from a AAA team and into a bad MLB team. In fact, they actually won a few games in a row. Considering the talent, or lack of talent on their roster, they are doing alright. Nevertheless, I believe the Angels are in a prime position to take another game from the Astros Sunday afternoon.

C.J. Wilson will try to bounce back after a shaky start against the Tigers where he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. Wilson still managed to pick up the victory in that one as the Angels lit up the scoreboard with a 14-8 win. This time around Wilson will not need to worry about the potent Tigers’ bats; instead, he will have the far less talented Astros to deal with. Wilson was on a fairly impressive run before getting knocked around by the Tigers. He gave up no runs to the Mariners and 2 to the Yankees. Also, this won’t be Wilson’s first or even second time facing the Astros. In the first meeting, Wilson had an ERA of 2, and then followed that up with 3 runs allowed on June 2nd.

I think Wilson will have a fairly good game, but I think this is going to be a game won from the Angels’ offense. They are beginning to heat up, and I believe Lucas Harrell is running into a difficult situation on Sunday. The Angels hit right-handed pitching at an impressive .271 clip. Harrell played the Angels back on May 9th, holding them to only 2 runs, but I think he will get tattooed this time around. He only lasted 3.1 innings against the Cardinals last game, getting pounded for 7 runs in that short span. While I think he will stick around a little longer than that, the Angels should be able to make things frustrating for Harrell. I pick my spots laying run lines with big favorites, I don’t make it a habit of playing them regularly, but I think it is warranted in this spot.
