Angels vs. Mariners MLB Pick – August 12th

The Seattle Mariners dropped a tough one last night, while the Angels did themselves a big favor by edging the Mariners out by a score of 6-5. The Mariners had control of the contest with a 5-1 lead but it evaporated quickly in just one inning.

With the win, the Angels have advanced to a deadlock with the Mariners and Rays, just behind the Twins who are now in possession of the final wildcard. What, the Twins? Yeah, that’s how crazy this battle is getting, it’s a new team every day who are slotted in the wildcard for the American League. The Angels and Mariners meet again tonight so they won’t be locked up after tonight.

The Angels, Mariners, and Rays are all 0.5 games back. This thing looks like it’s going to come all the way down to the last day of the regular season, and that’s the way we like it. Some winning picks would be good, too. JC Ramirez will pitch tonight for the Angels tonight after Ricky Nolasco avoided enough damage to give the Angels a win. The bullpen was solid for the Angels as they didn’t allow anything else across the plate.

It’s a battle of Ramirez tonight, with Erasmo Ramirez getting the nod for the Mariners. Erasmo was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, giving the Mariners a little extra help as Felix Hernandez nurses himself back from injury. Felix was recently placed on the DL, but is hoping to get back early.

Note that Iwakuma has missed time as well, but the Mariners hope to get both back before the end of the regular season. It’s unfortunate that their pitching problems flare up all at the wrong time. James Paxton has been dynamite, but somebody else, like say, Erasmo Ramirez must step up now. Get our free Angels vs. Mariners pick below.

L.A. Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Pick

JC Ramirez (10-10, 4.21 ERA) vs. Erasmo Ramirez (4-4, 5.10 ERA)

Erasmo was stuffed in the Rays’ bullpen for his remaining days with the club and did well. In six appearances out of the bullpen, he didn’t allow a run in five. However, he did give up 4 runs in just 1 inning in the game he did give up runs. I wouldn’t say his welcome to the Mariners has been the best. He’s made two starts, allowing 2 runs in the first which was fine, but then got dinged for 5 runs in 5 innings against the Royals. He’s been much better when at home. On the road he’s gone 0-4, and at home 4-0 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

JC Ramirez made a relief appearance against the Mariners way back in April and it didn’t go so well for him. He gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in just 1.1 innings and quickly got pulled. Robinson Cano has hit him for a .500, and Nelson Cruz a .333 with a long ball against JC. In total, the Mariners have hit .278 in 36 at-bats against him. Seattle should be able to get this back tonight at home on Saturday.
