It took some walk-off dramatics last night, but we notched a third straight MLB winner thanks to the Braves 5-4 win over Pittsburgh, just sneaking over the eight run game total. I thought we’d have a few runs to spare, but no sense being greedy; a win is a win. Also, sorry for doubling up on the sites MLB picks yesterday – I hadn’t seen Kyle’s pick or column as I was travelling yesterday, but at least I am glad we were both united on a winning pick. Hopefully a few of you had similar good fortune on a packed Saturday of sports.
It’s been a nice week for MLB picks, so let’s see if we can cap it off in grand fashion with a fourth straight winner to cap off the week. For tonight’s free pick, let’s head out to New York and check in on two pitchers of postseason glory long ago…

Today’s Free Pick:
Los Angeles Angels +104 at New York Yankees -109 (Total: 8.5)
CJ Wilson vs. CC Sabathia
Who needs first names today? And who needs outs? It could get ugly today for a pair of pitchers that have seen far better results in their rear view mirrors. I’ve beaten up CC plenty on the site this year, and it isn’t unwarranted – his 2-7 record and 5.45 ERA is one of the worst in baseball among qualifying starters and if it weren’t for his name and sizeable contract, his spot in the rotation might have already evaporated. However, barring injury, it is hard to see CC getting yanked anytime soon.
And that may be good news for the rest of the league, including the Angels today. The Halos can already score runs on the regular, despite some struggles so far this season (4.01 per game). I expect CC to help Trout and Pujols and company to get right this afternoon in the Bronx. Don’t be surprised if at least one enjoys the short porch this afternoon.
Meanwhile, CJ Wilson has been OK this year. His 3-4 record and 3.45 ERA are respectable, as is his 1.18 WHIP. But his 8.48 ERA in day games is a little concerting. The Angels are just 4-17 in Wilson’s last 21 road starts, which is abysmal… but I still can’t pull the trigger on betting on CC.
So let’s bet against BOTH pitchers. The OVER is 36-12-3 in Wilsons last 51 road starts and a whoping 24-7 in CC’s last 31 daytime starts. Those are slightly odd numbers, but the point remains – today should belong to the bats.
