Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick – MLB May 16, 2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers stay at home following a thrilling victory on Sunday afternoon. Down to their final out, Gavin Lux ripped a double to bring home two runners for a walk-off 5-4 win against the Philadelphia Phillies.

That was a big win for a Dodgers team that was just one out away from getting swept by the Phillies at home. LA had lost four straight games, including a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on May 11.

Following that loss in Pittsburgh, the Dodgers followed up with a 12-10 and 8-3 loss to the Phillies. They didn’t look like themselves for much of the past week, but that’s baseball. The best teams will go through slumps.

The Dodgers are a 21-12 team going into tonight. They are in a tie with the San Diego Padres for the best record in the major leagues. The Giants and Padres should put stress on the Dodgers throughout this season.

After beating the Cubs on Sunday Night Baseball, the Dodgers started to get too comfortable and complacent. They went through a hot stretch from the end of April to May 8. The Dodgers had won seven of eight games, including a sweep over the Giants and Cubs.

The good news for Dodgers fans is that a win like last night is the type of victory that can get a team going. That’s what made the win so big. The Dodgers should have some more confidence in their step going into Monday night.

Madison Bumgarner makes his return to a familiar place at Dodger Stadium.

Bumgarner is scheduled to get the call for the Arizona Diamondbacks this evening. He has had some epic battles at Dodger Stadium as a member of the Giants. Tony Gonoslin is scheduled for the Dodgers.

Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Prediction:

Madison Bumgarner has good and bad memories from pitching at Dodger Stadium in his career. He has three World Series rings, so his time against the Dodgers is mostly filled with happy memories.

After getting torched in his first season with the Diamondbacks in 2020, and a slow start last year, Bumgarner was able to find his stroke after the All-Star Game.

He is in vintage Bumgarner form going into tonight. Bumgarner has an ERA of 1.78 and a 1.12 WHIP across 30.1 innings. He’s allowed 6 earned runs in 30.1 innings of work.

Bumgarner has liked pitching against this lineup in his career. The Dodgers are hitting .187 with a .288 OBP in 212 at-bats.

The Dodgers and Bumgarner are well familiar with one another.

He’s had no problems going on the road and pitching well in 2022. Bumgarner has posted an ERA of 1.64 and a .162 OBA. This is the best we’ve seen from him since dicing up the Dodgers with the Giants.

The Dodgers’ pitching staff wasn’t at their best against the Phillies, but overall, they’ve been in good shape. They are second in the majors with 3.20 runs allowed per 9 innings and an opponent batting average of .211.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 18-17
  • 18-57 overall in their previous 75 games on the road as an underdog
  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games on a Monday
  • 33-80 overall in their previous 113 games after a loss
  • UNDER is 11-3 in their previous 14 games after a loss
  • UNDER is 7-2 in their previous nine games

  • Record (Last 10): 5-5
  • 40-11 overall in their previous 51 games
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games on a Monday
  • UNDER is 7-1 in their previous eight games on a Monday
  • UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the NL West
  • UNDER is 20-7-1 in their previous 28 games after a win

  • Tony Gonsolin has been in great form this season. He’s done a little bit of everything for the Dodgers in his career. However, Gonsolin has never been a full-time starter.

Gonsolin is in a starting role and handling the new responsibilities well. He is going into tonight with an ERA of 1.33 and a 1.07 WHIP across six attempts. Note that in three of six starts, Gonsolin didn’t allow a run.

This looks like a good matchup for Gonsolin on Monday night. Gonsolin has been on fire at Dodger Stadium, as he’s posted an ERA of 0.60 and a 0.93 WHIP. In 141 at-bats, Gonsolin has held the Diamondbacks to a .141 batting average and 4 RBIs in 79 at-bats.

It doesn’t look like a high-scoring game at Dodger Stadium. Bumgarner always likes coming here, and he’s pitching at this best right now. A total of 8.5 runs looks a shade too high in my book.
