The Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals are on the diamond at Nationals Park on Wednesday evening. The Nationals are coming off a 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks last night.

Joan Adon had a big arm for the Nationals last night. Adon went 6.1 innings with 3 hits and no earned runs allowed. He handed the ball over to the bullpen, where they conceded just 2 hits and a walk.
It was a win for the Nationals’ pitching staff, who carried the load in a pitching duel against Tyler Gilbert. Gilbert was sharp for the Diamondbacks, as he allowed 3 hits and 1 earned runs across 5.2 innings of work.
He received zero run support from his offense in that one. There’s not much you can do on a night like that as a pitcher. The Arizona pitching staff did their job for the Diamondbacks. That’s their third straight loss and fourth in five attempts.
Gilbert didn’t get any run support, and the rest of the pitching staff knows how he feels. The Snakes have scored just 1 run in their last three outings, as they fall to 3-8 on the season.
The Nationals improved to 6-7 with back-to-back wins against the Diamondbacks. They will look for another following a 6-1 and 1-0 win. Erick Fedde will get the call to open this one for the Nats.
Arizona is scheduled to give the starting call to Merill Kelly. Kelly has been in top form through his first two starts this season. Head below for our free Diamondbacks vs. Nationals prediction on April 20, 2022.

Diamondbacks vs. Nationals Prediction:
Merrill Kelly has done everything asked of him this season. He and the rest of the Diamondbacks’ rotation need to get some help from the offense, though.
It doesn’t matter if Kelly has a Cy Young campaign, the Diamondbacks won’t get anywhere without runs. Kelly opened the season with a standout performance against a good San Diego team.
The Padres notched 4 hits and no runs against Kelly in his time on the bump. They were able to edge out the D-backs because again, no run support.
San Diego picked up a 3-0 win, with Arizona failing to score a run in support of the pitching staff. He didn’t get the best run support in his next start, but it was enough in a 3-2 win.
Kelly conceded 3 hits and no runs in 5.1 innings of work. Going into Nationals Park, Kelly has a 0.00 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 10 innings.
Washington has scored 4.03 runs per game for 20th in the majors. At home this season, the Nats are hitting .168 with 2.65 runs a game. I’m looking at Kelly and the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff holding up well.
The big question is whether he will receive run support, though. The Diamondbacks lack firepower in their lineup to reach base and score. It is likely going to be a problem on the road at Nationals Park tonight.

Diamondbacks
- Record (Last 10): 2-8
- 12-57 overall in their previous 69 games on the road
- 2-10 overall in their previous 12 games versus the NL East
- UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games after a loss
- UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games versus the NL East

Nationals
- Record (Last 10): 6-4

- UNDER is 6-1 in their previous seven games versus the NL West
- UNDER is 5-1 in their previous six games versus a right-handed starter
- UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games at home
The Diamondbacks are abysmal at the plate this season. They have scored 2.01 runs per game for 30th in the majors.
Heading into this one, the D-backs are hitting a horrendous .155 from the dish. Arizona has knocked just 0.75 home runs per game.
Erick Fedde has been solid to open the season. Nothing outstanding, but he should find it nice against the Diamondbacks tonight.
Fedde has a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 10 innings. He allowed 2 runs in each of his first two starts, with a 4-2 win over the Mets and then a 7-2 win over the Pirates.
Note that the D-backs are hitting just .079 with two singles, the only production against Fedde in 18 at-bats. The UNDER at even money has to be worth a serious look at Nationals Park.
This total bet looks like pretty good value on the diamond Wednesday night.
