Astros vs. Yankees Pick – MLB May 14th

The New York Yankees look to avoid a sweep, while the Houston Astros go for their sixth win in a row on Sundays. The Astros look like they are for real, as they’ve advanced to 25-11 with another win yesterday. The Yankees have nothing to show for this series, but they still own an impressive record of 21-12. If anyone were to tell the Yankees that they’d be there at this point, then they would have been content. Nevertheless, the ‘Stros can take three of three from them on Sunday.

The Astros were supposed to be the team to beat a year ago, after they burst on the scene a couple years ago. Armed with plenty of young talent, their regression was a bit baffling. Almost like they thought it was going to be easy and they didn’t need to put in any work. The Astros failed to reach the postseason, with their year ending in disappointing fashion.

They’ve seemed to learn from their mistakes, though. Houston are playing focused and composed, getting help from numerous positions. We’ll see if the Astros can complete the sweep, or the Yanks get back to playing winning baseball. Get our free Astros vs. Yankees pick here at The Sports Geek.

Houston Astros vs. N.Y. Yankees Pick

Mike Fiers (1-1, 5.64 ERA) vs. Luis Severino (2-2, 3.40 ERA)

I wouldn’t say that Mike Fiers is happy with his start to the 2017 season. He holds a lackluster 5.64 ERA and it wasn’t the best for him in 2016, either. Fiers posted an ERA 4.48 in 2016 so he’s been trying to come to grips with pitching better. Definitely not the case in 2017, as his numbers have been sliding considerably. His WHIP is also sub-par, with a mark of 1.55 on the year. The Astros have done a lot of things right this season, but Fiers has been the exception.

The Yanks will counter with Luis Severino, who has been churning in quality starts in 2017. He has an impressive ERA of 3.40, including a strong WHIP of just 0.91. This appears to be a good spot for the Yankees to avoid a sweep. The Astros winning streak should come to an end, as they struggle to find much traction with Fiers on the mound this afternoon.
