The Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies should have a fun series at Coors Field over the next four days. The Rockies host the Braves at Coors Field for what should be a lot of long fly balls in Denver.

Colorado is coming off a thrilling walk-off victory over the Marlins in the nightcap of a doubleheader. After getting drilled 14-1, the Rockies won in dramatic fashion by a score of 13-12. Brendan Rodgers was responsible for the 10th inning game-ender.
Rodgers was also responsible for three home runs. It was a career night for the 25-year-old, who more than doubled his home run total this season to 5 long balls.
The Rockies advanced to 23-27 on the season with the win. They won’t be able to keep up in a very tough NL West, with a battle between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Rockies for last.
Finding quality pitchers that want to come to Denver is difficult. They don’t want to be hampered by going a mile high and dealing with a launching pad in the thin air at Coors Field.
For that reason, the Rockies will always have to overpay if they’re going to become a serious contender again. The Rockies have the worst pitching staff, statistically, in the majors.
They are at a disadvantage of playing half their games at Coors, but I don’t think these guys would be good if you gave them a home in California either.
Austin Gomber is expected to get the starting call for the Rockies tonight. The lefty has been inconsistent like the rest of the rotation. Ian Anderson counters for the Braves on the road.

Braves vs. Rockies Prediction:
The Braves are turning to Ian Anderson at Coors Field. Pitchers would like to skip this start at Coors, but Anderson gets the opening honors in this series. I like Anderson, but he’s running into issues in his last two outings.
Coors Field isn’t the place to go for a pitcher that is looking for a bounce-back performance. The ball has been flying all over Coors this week, and it’s likely another game tonight where the best offense wins.
Anderson is going into Denver with an ERA of 4.34 and a 1.34 WHIP. That’s not bad, but his recent work hasn’t been in good form.
In his last three attempts, Anderson is entering this one with an ERA of 4.58 and a 1.25 WHIP. He was touched up for 8 earned runs in his last two starts through 11.2 innings.
Note that Anderson has yielded at least 3 earned runs in three of his previous four outings. He has been in good shape on the road, with an ERA of 2.79 and a 1.10 WHIP.
They’ve notched 2 home runs and 4 RBIs in 14 at-bats against Anderson. The Rockies aren’t just taking advantage of the long ball in the thing air, they’re making contact.
Colorado is the second-best team in the majors with a .265 batting average and fourth with 4.87 runs per 9 innings.

Lefty Austin Gomber is going into tonight with an ERA of 5.51 and a 1.37 WHIP. Gomber has gotten smashed for an 8.16 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in his last three starts.
At the hitter’s friendly Coors Field, expect the Braves offense to swing a big bat against the Rockies tonight. Besides Gomber, the Colorado pitching staff has been bad with 5.88 runs against per 9 innings, 30th, and a .282 batting average against; this is last as well.
The Rockies have the worst bullpen in the majors, with a team ERA of 5.20 and 1.48 WHIP. It’s a little of playing at Coors Field, but that doesn’t explain struggling on the road as well.
There should be ample runs on the board at Coors tonight. A look at the total on the OVER looks like a wise decision. A final score of 8-7 or 7-6 looks right.
