Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick – MLB April 18, 2022

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers meet for a rematch of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium. This three-game series follows two meetings between the Braves and Dodgers in the NLCS in 2020 and 2021.

The Dodgers beat the Braves in seven games in 2020, and then the Braves repaid the favorite last year en route to winning the World Series. These are the two most recent World Series winners in a major headliner at Dodger Stadium.

If there is any series to pay attention to this week, it has to be the Braves and Dodgers. The Braves are off to a so-so start with a record of 5-6. They have a small World Series hangover from last year.

The Braves and their fans still have to be on a high after beating the Houston Astros in six games. Going into Dodger Stadium, the Braves have three losses in five attempts. They are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Padres on Sunday Night Baseball.

Their pitching has been strong over the last three games after getting bashed in a 12-1 loss on Thursday in San Diego. They allowed 2 runs in each of their last three, though last night it wasn’t enough.

The bats were silenced against Yu Darvish. Darvish was hot with 1 earned run allowed through 6.2 innings of work. Atlanta wasn’t left confused at the plate in that one.

The Dodgers are blazing hot on a six-game winning streak. They are coming off a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds after a 9-1 win on Sunday. There was no slowing down for the Dodgers to advance to 7-2 on the season.

Braves vs. Dodgers Prediction:

The Braves will look for a much better performance from Hunter Ynoa in this one. Ynoa struggled mightily in his first start this season.

The Braves are expecting a lot from Ynoa this start, though he didn’t get off to a brilliant opening act. Ynoa was hammered for 7 hits and 5 earned runs through 3 innings of work.

He left the game against the Nationals with a 15.00 ERA and 3.00 WHIP. That was not what the Braves anticipated from Ynoa against a spotty lineup like the Nats.

Ynoa is in his fourth season with a breakout expected from him soon. In the biggest workload of his career, Ynoa posted an ERA of 4.05 and a 1.11 WHIP last year.

This was after a 5.82 ERA through nine games in 2020. Ynoa has not had a full season thus far. He appeared in 18 games a season ago and looks for many more opportunities this year.

I’m looking at Ynoa to have a better performance tonight. He didn’t get off to a sharp start, but isn’t nearly as bad as that performance indicates.

In ten at-bats versus the Dodgers, they are hitting .111 with one double. Ynoa may have to be perfect with Clayton Kershaw on the other side tonight.

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 5-6
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games in the first game of a series
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games after allowing 2 runs or fewer
  • UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games in the first game of a series
  • UNDER is 5-1-1 in their previous seven games on the road
  • UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the NL West

  • Record (Last 10): 7-2
  • 43-12 overall in their previous 55 games at home
  • 14-6 overall in their previous 20 games versus the NL East
  • UNDER is 20-5-1 in their previous 26 games in the first game of a series
  • UNDER is 11-3 in their previous 14 games after a win
  • UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games on a Monday

Kershaw was on pace for a perfect game in his first start this season, but Dave Roberts had other plans. Roberts pulled Kershaw after a perfect 7 innings on the bump.

Kershaw was doing Kershaw things and looked primed for another big season with the Dodgers. He is expected to look good again tonight.

Roberts doesn’t want to overuse Kershaw this early in the season. That’s what it came down to, but come on now. Kershaw is coming off another strong performance in 2021.
He has a career-high ERA of 2.48 and 1.00 WHIP and appears in the same form to do the same this season. The Braves’ offense hasn’t been hot to open this season and he should be good tonight, too.

As a pitching staff, the Dodgers are third in the majors with a 2.73 ERA and a .175 batting average. This is not a surprise for a team that has talent in the starting rotation and bullpen.

Kershaw should be sharp and look for Ynoa to bounce back at Dodger Stadium tonight. Give me the UNDER in a 4-2 or 3-2 final in Los Angeles.
