Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals MLB Pick – July 29th

The MLB is set up with a smaller selection of games on Monday night with only seven games on the board. The Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals will be one of the top matchups on the board. These two teams should play a close game on July 29. This game will start at around 7:05 PM Eastern time on Monday night.

The Braves have posted a record of 62-44 to this point in the season to earn the top spot in the NL East. Atlanta has earned a comfortable lead in their division but will look to build a bigger lead by winning their road series against Washington. The Braves have lost seven of their last eleven games and will look to bounce back in this series starting with a win on Monday night.

Washington has earned the second spot in the NL East to this point in the season with a record of 56-49. The Nationals could gain on Atlanta if they could win this series. Washington has lost three of their last four games. The Nationals will look to pull off a win on Monday night to get this series started off on the right foot.

Monday night matchup between the Braves and the Nationals should be a good one. These two teams are competing for the top spot in the NL East, which adds some excitement to the game. Washington is at home and will look to use that to their advantage to try and take this series. Atlanta has been good this season and will look to create some more distance between them and the Nationals.

Previous Matchups

The first series between the Braves and the Nationals was a two-game series on May 28 and 29. Howie Kendrick scored the game-winning run for Washington in the top of the seventh. Stephen Strasburg allowed five hits and two runs through seven innings as the Nationals won 5-4. Howie Kendrick had four RBI’s in the second game as Washington dominated in a 14-4 win.

The second series was between June 21-23 in Washington. The Braves jumped out to an early lead in the first game, but the Nationals bounced back to finish with a 4-3 win. Freddie Freeman had a great game in the second matchup as he had five RBI’s on two hits to lead Atlanta to a 13-9 win. Johan Camargo had a two-run homer in the top of the tenth in the final game to lead the Braves to a 4-3 win.

The most recent series was in Atlanta between July 18-21. The Nationals rode an eight-run third inning to a 13-4 win in the first meeting of this series. Josh Donaldson hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth in the second meeting as the Braves won 4-3. Washington bounced back in the third game as they pulled off a 5-3 win. Atlanta finished out the final game of this series with an impressive 7-1 victory.

The Nationals have been able to put up a 5-4 record in their series against Atlanta this season. The Braves have been the better team overall this season, but these teams have gone back and forth against each other. I expect these two teams to play another good series in Washington over the next few days as they each look to get a leg up on each other in the division.

Batting

Atlanta has had some big hitters this season. Freddie Freeman has 124 hits, 25 home runs, 81 RBI’s and an OPS of .963. Ronald Acuna Jr. has earned 125 hits, 25 home runs and 64 RBI’s’ this season. Ozzie Albies has put up 118 hits, 15 home runs and 57 RBI’s. Josh Donaldson has 93 hits, 23 home runs and 62 RBI’s with the Braves this season. Austin Riley and Brian McCann both have double-digit home runs as well.

The Nationals have some good hitters this season as well. Adam Eaton has 110 hits on the season. Anthony Rendon has earned 105 hits, 22 home runs, 76 RBI’s and an OPS of 1.008 so far this season. Juan Soto has 99 hits, 18 home runs and 66 RBI’s. Victor Robles, Brian Dozier, Howie Kendrick, Kurt Suzuki, and Matt Adams all have double-digit home runs on the season.

The Braves lineup took a big hit with the loss of Nick Markakis and Dansby Swanson to injury for a little while. Atlanta has gotten Ender Inciarte back from injury and he has bounced back in a solid way in the last few games. If the Braves can get solid performances from Inciarte, it should keep them in a solid position to win the NL East. I believe Atlanta holds the edge on the batting side of this matchup.

Pitchers

The Braves will have Dallas Keuchel start on the mound for Monday night. Keuchel has put up a 3-3 record through his seven starts with Atlanta this season. He has an ERA of 3.50 and a WHIP of 1.260 in those starts. His last start came against the Kansas City Royals, where he allowed three hits and two runs through six innings.

Patrick Corbin will be the starting pitcher for Washington in Monday’s tilt. Corbin has an 8-5 record through twenty-one starts this season. He has an ERA of 3.25 and a WHIP of 1.151. His last start came against the Colorado Rockies. Corbin allowed three hits and no runs throughout six innings in that start for his eighth win on the season.

Both of these pitchers have some similar stats this season, but Corbin’s are slightly better through more games. Keuchel had a bit of a slow start after sitting out the first part of this season, but he has been doing better in his last few games. I believe that these two pitchers should match up pretty well with each other on Monday night.

Pick Overview

The Braves have not been the better team in their previous series against Washington, but I believe that they have a good chance to tie up the overall series with a win on Monday night. Atlanta has the edge when it comes to hitting and the two starting pitchers both match up well with each other. I believe that this gives the Braves a good chance to pull off the road upset.

BetOnline has the Nationals listed as a -145 against the money line. This implies that Washington will win this game around 59.2 percent of the time. I believe that the Braves have a much better chance in this game then this money line gives them credit for. This puts a lot of value on Atlanta for Monday night’s matchup, making them my pick of the night.
