Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago Cubs Pick – MLB July 13, 2022

Who is the hottest team in baseball at the moment? It’s a team from the AL East and not the Yankees, Blue Jays, Red Sox, or Rays. The O’s are playing their best baseball in a long time, as they won again for their ninth straight win last night.

They reached .500 and have played their best baseball in over a few years. The Orioles are coming out of a rebuilding phase and hope to be a postseason team in a year or two.

The Orioles are as good as they’ve been since finishing above .500 in 2016. However, don’t get too excited about giving the top teams in the American League a scare.. yet.

It reached a low in 2018 when the Orioles finished an embarrassing 47-115 and 61 games off the lead in the AL East. The Orioles couldn’t go any lower from there, and four years later, they’re being talked about as the hottest team in baseball.

Don’t look now, but the Orioles are only two games behind the Blue Jays.

Could the Blue Jays fall to last in the AL East? It’s possible, considering how hot the Orioles are playing. This last week of the first half is imperative for the Blue Jays to build some confidence.

The Cubs fell to 34-53 and 14.5 games behind the Brewers with the loss. They are in danger of falling to last in the NL Central before the All-Star break.

Wrigleyville just wants this season to be done as soon as possible. It’s a season to forget, but I don’t believe next season will look much better.

Second-year major starters Spenser Watkins and Justin Steele are due up in the rotation. Head below for our free Orioles vs. Cubs prediction on July 13, 2022.

Orioles vs. Cubs Prediction:

It has been a team effort contributing to the Orioles recent success. The pitching and offense have all come together to contribute. If there’s one catalyst, it has to be the improvement they’ve made in their pitching staff.

Spenser Watkins has helped play a role in the O’s rotation.

Watkins has been mostly good this season, as he has improved nicely following a shaky start to his career in 2021. He appeared in 16 games, with an ERA of 8.07 and a 1.70 WHIP across 54.2 innings of work.

It took Watkins a while to earn the first major league start of his career. He was drafted in 2014 by the Detroit Tigers and had to wait until he was 28 for his first major league start.

Watkins used the most recent offseason to improve after he had command issues last season. It is paying off for Watkins, as he continues to get stronger on the hill.

He’s entering Wrigley Field with an ERA of 4.15 and a 1.38 WHIP.

In his previous three starts, Watkins has been hot as ever with an ERA of 1.02 and a 0.85 WHIP. He’s allowed 3 runs with no home runs in 19.1 innings of work.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago Cubs Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 7-3
  • 9-0 overall in their previous nine games
  • 4-0 overall in their previous four games versus a left-handed starter
  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games versus a starter with a WHIP worse than 1.30
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the NL Central
  • UNDER is 5-1 in their previous six games versus the National League

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 3-11 overall in their previous 14 games versus the American League
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games versus nine games versus the AL East
  • 8-21 overall in their previous 29 games versus a team with a losing record
  • 2-14 overall in their previous 16 games versus a right-handed starter from the American League
  • 8-17 overall in their previous 25 second game of a series

  • Justin Steele is in the same position as Watkins. He opened his major league career last year with an ERA of 4.26 and a 1.35 WHIP in 20 attempts. The lefty has been in similar form this season.

Steele is going into tonight with a 4.13 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

He’s going into this start with an ERA of 3.63 and a 1.27 WHIP in his previous three assignments. Steele has shown to be great at times, but needs to be more consistent.

The O’s bullpen is the most underrated aspect of this team. This is why they are winning games. Baltimore is fifth with a bullpen ERA of 3.23 and a 1.20 WHIP.

Conversely, the Cubs are near the back of the majors with a 4.43 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Their pitching staff is 25th, with 5.21 runs allowed per 9 innings.

The offense has played well for the O’s as well. They’ve scored 5 runs per 9 innings compared to 3.48 runs per 9 for the Cubs. Watkins at plus money for the O’s tenth in a row looks like good value. It’s hard to avoid the Orioles in this current form.
