Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox Pick – MLB June 24, 2022

The Baltimore Orioles rode the hot arm of Dean Kremer to a 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox last night. Kremer dazzled for his third straight performance this season on the hill. The White Sox had their chances, but never capitalized and left several runners stranded.

The Orioles are learning how to win games this season, and it’s happening with their arms. Winning with their pitching staff hasn’t been something the Orioles have done in a while. They’ve been a launching pad for hitters over the last five years or so.

Baltimore will go into Friday night with a record of 32-39. That doesn’t look like much, but if you know the Orioles, this is good progress and a win as we approach the end of June.

No one expected to see the Orioles competing to win the AL East, but they also didn’t expect to see their pitching up to speed this season. Their bullpen in particular has been a welcome surprise in Baltimore.

The White Sox are 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the lead in the AL Central.

They slipped falling to 33-35 on the season, but are still within reach of the top of the division. Nobody really jumps off the page in the AL Central, so two games below .500 is enough to be in the race.

The White Sox are on a two-game skid going into Friday night. They had won six of eight games, including two of three wins over the Blue Jays.

The Orioles are expected to send Austin Voth to the mound for this one. Look for the White Sox to counter with Michael Kopech, who is developing into an ace on this team.

Orioles vs. White Sox Prediction:

After a miserable performance at the plate last night, expect the White Sox to have much better output against Austin Voth. Kyle Bradish was originally listed as the starter, but he is being pushed back to Saturday.

Voth has pitched with two teams this season. He started off with the Washington Nationals, a place he opened his career in 2018, but was involved in a trade after 19 appearances out of the bullpen for the Nationals.

Voth was rocked for a 10.13 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 18.2 innings with the Nats.

Washington wouldn’t let Voth escape the bullpen and get to the rotation. With those numbers, it’s not surprising that the Nationals didn’t want to give him a chance as a starter.

He was stashed away in the bullpen until someone gave them a call. The Orioles took a chance, and so far he’s doing everything expected out of him.

Voth has posted an ERA of 3.00 and a 1.67 WHIP in four appearances with the Orioles. He made his 2022 debut as a starter versus the Rays five days ago.

Voth stayed for only 2.2 innings, with 3 hits and 1 walk allowed during that time. He doesn’t have the stamina to go too long right now. The O’s will likely utilize a similar strategy with Voth opening the game and not going long.

The O’s need another quality performance from their pitching to win tonight.

With Michael Kopech on the other side in this one, expect him to put a lot of pressure on the Orioles to have another gem on the bump.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 1-8 overall in their previous nine games versus the White Sox
  • 4-7 overall in their previous ten games versus the AL Central
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games at Chicago (W. Sox)
  • 23-62 overall in their previous 85 second game of a series
  • 10-19 overall in their previous 29 games on the road versus a team with a losing record

White Sox

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 13-4 overall in their previous 17 second game of a series
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games versus a right-handed starter
  • 8-1 overall in their previous nine games versus the Orioles
  • 5-3 overall in their previous eight games versus a team with a losing record
  • UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games

  • Kopech spent most of his time in the bullpen last year, but has improved to the point that it’s too tough to keep him away from the rotation. In his first complete season in the major leagues, Kopech notched an ERA of 3.50 and a 1.13 WHIP.

He is in the best form of his career with a 2.38 ERA and 0.99 WHIP entering tonight.

Kopech was going into this last start with a 1.92 ERA. In his worst performance of the season, Kopech had trouble with 7 hits and 4 earned runs allowed in 5 innings.

He’s flown high at home, where Kopech has posted a 1.57 ERA and 0.73 WHIP across 30.1 innings of work on the bump.

The White Sox were victims of a hot pitcher and a team that couldn’t find a clutch hit last night. This shouldn’t be as much of a problem at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox on the runline at +120 looks like a nice value bet.
