Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Angels Pick – MLB April 23, 2022

The Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels meet at Angel Stadium for the second matchup of a three-game series. Baltimore may not be the best team, but credit the Orioles for their effort last night.

Bruce Zimmermann had a steady performance with 5 hits and 2 earned runs allowed across 6 innings of work. Getting through a lineup that features Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon is not a walk in the park.

Zimmermann made it look pretty easy for the O’s, though. There wasn’t anything wrong with starter Reid Detmers. He lasted 5 innings with 3 hits and 2 earned runs allowed.

Archie Bradley blowing up out of the bullpen in the 6th inning was enough for the Orioles to edge ahead. With the win, the Orioles are 5-9 on the season with losses in three of their previous five attempts.

The Angels are off to a 8-6 start, which is pretty well what you’d expect from this team. If they’re two games above .500 in July as well, there would be no surprise with that. Ohtani, Trout, and Rendon and two games above .500?

Yeah, that wouldn’t be well received by Angels fans, but they are used to an underperforming team. Newcomer to Anaheim, Noah Syndergaard, has been far from an underperformer this season.

Syndergaard gets the call looking to stay hot for the Angels. The Orioles are expected to counter with Spenser Watkins. Head below for our free Orioles vs. Angels prediction on April 23, 2022.

Orioles vs. Angels Prediction:

Spenser Watkins is off to a crisp start this season in Baltimore. Watkins enters Angel Stadium with an ERA of 2.25 and a 1.25 WHIP in two appearances.

He held the Brewers to 1 earned run across 3 innings versus the Brewers in his 2022 debut. That wasn’t a perfect performance for Watkins.

Watkins had to hold on to avoid getting hit hard. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks to put runners on base. His next and most recent outing was in better form.

Watkins allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run versus the Oakland Athletics on Monday. Despite a strong start, the Orioles still lost the game by a score of 5-1.

He doesn’t have a win because of an offense that has let him down often. The same could be said for the rest of the Orioles’ rotation. Baltimore is 30th in the majors with 2.43 runs scored per 9 innings.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Angels Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus the AL West
  • 16-56 overall in their previous 72 games on the road
  • 12-42 overall in their previou 54 games on the road versus a team with a winning record
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games at Anaheim
  • UNDER is 7-1 in their previous eight games on the road

  • Record (Last 10): 7-3
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games as a betting favorite
  • 4-0 overall in their previous four games after a loss
  • 5-2 overall in their previous seven games in the second game of a series
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games on a Saturday
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the Orioles at home

Noah Syndergaard is looking to make up for lost time after dealing with injuries in the end of his tenure in Queens. Everyone is well aware how good Syndergaard can be when he’s feeling good.

Thor is feeling good in Anaheim and is off to a fast start with the Angels. He has been strong through his first start with his new team.

Syndergaard has posted an ERA of 1.59 and a 0.79 WHIP in two starts against the Astros and Rangers. He is ready to do good work against the Orioles tonight and should get it done.

The Orioles’ offense has been lifeless at the plate and Syndergaard should be tough in his current form. I like the Angels to bounce back nicely after a loss last night. They should pull away for at least a 2-run win at Angel Stadium.
