Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers Pick – MLB August 2, 2022

The Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers are at Globe Life Field for a three-game series in Arlington. The Orioles opened things with a 7-2 win over the Rangers. Cedric Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle both had a big evening at the plate, with 2 RBIs each.

Jon Gray lasted just 1.1 innings with 4 hits and 3 earned runs allowed. He was chased out of the game early, while Spenser Watkins pitched 6 innings with 5 hits and 1 earned run conceded.

The Orioles are fine after they went on an impressive ten-game winning streak. Following their longest winning streak since the 90s, the Orioles have been up and down, but that’s to be expected.

Baltimore is entering Globe Life Field on Tuesday night with a record of 52-51. They got back over .500 with the win last night. As a result of their recent success, the Orioles have taken over fourth place in the AL East.

It feels like it wasn’t too long ago that the Red Sox were running hot.

Baseball can change in a hurry, as the Red Sox have found out recently. Sometimes it is for the better or the worst. The Orioles have a half-game on the Red Sox going into today.

The Rangers carry a record of 46-56 into Tuesday night. This is a disappointing campaign for the Rangers, who were expected to do something more after the moves they made in free agency.

Jordan Lyles is scheduled to have the call for the O’s on the bump to open this contest. Spencer Howard counters for the Rangers at home. Head below for our free Orioles vs. Rangers prediction on August 2, 2022.

Orioles vs. Rangers Prediction:

The Orioles have holes to repair in their rotation before they really become a contender. This is a good pitching staff and much improved, but there are some weak lines. Upgrading from Lyles wouldn’t be a bad move for the Orioles.

In 11 seasons dating back to 2021, Lyles has a career ERA of 5.15 and 1.43 WHIP.

I will give him one thing, Lyles is consistent. He’s just not consistently good enough to be a regular contributor. Lyles doesn’t stray too far from his career numbers.

Lyles doesn’t look any better this season. He’s on the hill with an ERA of 4.56 and a 1.44 WHIP. That’s just about what to expect from him.

Lyles is in good shape at home, though the road has been tricky work for him. At Camden Yards, Lyles has a 2.68 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. However, he’s looking to improve on a dreadful 6.12 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the road.

The Rangers are hitting an impressive .407 with a .485 OBP vs Lyles.

He hasn’t been in his best form recently, with an ERA of 6.08 and a 1.88 WHIP. Opponents have notched a .400 OBP during that time.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 6-4
  • 7-2 in their previous nine games after conceding 2 or fewer runs
  • 8-0 overall in their previous eight games versus the AL West
  • OVER is 7-1 in their previous eight games after scoring at least 5 runs
  • OVER is 7-1 in their previous eight games versus a right-handed starter
  • OVER is 5-2-1 in their previous eight games on the road

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 0-8 overall in their previous eight games versus a team with a winning record
  • 0-5 overall in their previous five games at home
  • OVER is 8-1 in their previous nine second game of a series
  • OVER is 9-3 in their previous 12 games at home
  • OVER is 5-2 in their previous seven games after conceding 2 or fewer runs

  • Spencer Howard has been holding onto his season, but the floodgates might burst open soon. He disappointed with the Phillies, posting an ERA of 5.92, 5.72, and 9.70 ERA in three seasons.

Howard has shown the ability to be better this season, but he’s still erratic.

In eight appearances in 2022, he’s notched an ERA of 5.93 and a 1.58 WHIP. He is coming off a strong performance against the Angels, but so is everyone else that steps on the mound.

The O’s are hitting .333 with 1 home run and 6 RBIs against Howard through 26 at-bats. They’ve had success and should hold up well with Howard on the bump tonight. I’m looking at OVER on a total that looks too short.
