I took my second loss of the weekend in MLB when the Cardinals erupted for seven runs in the 10th inning to push the total well OVER, as well as leave Cincinnati with a nice, fat four game lead. My NBA pick was an easy win, with the Heat overwhelming the Spurs in one of the most dominant ten minute stretches in NBA history. We will try to get back on track with an MLB winner tonight.
Today’s Free Pick:
Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox (Total: 8.5)
R.A. Dickey (5-7, 4.66 ERA) vs. Dylan Axelrod (3-4, 3.74 ERA)
To say the Blue Jays aren’t getting quite the output the expected from reigning NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey would be a pretty big understatement. His losing record is troubling enough, but with an ERA ballooning towards five, things have been pretty frustrating for the Jays. His last three outings have been even a bit worse, with a 1-2 record and a 5.14 ERA. The White Sox have a pretty lousy offense, with a .233 batting average and a dismal 3.48 runs/nine innings, so perhaps Dickey will have a decent outing tonight…
Even better news for the Jays, Chicago’s main offensive threat, Paul Konerko, is really struggling at the dish. He is hitting just .235 with six home runs on the season. Adam Dunn has been even worse. He has 14 homeruns – which on the surface sounds like a decent start. Until you notice his ridiculous .165 batting average. If Dickey is ever going to get things on the right track, it seems like the knuckleballer has a chance to rack up a few K’s tonight. They are DEAD last in the American League in batting average, and have already amassed nearly 500 strikeouts as a team.
Dickey looked better in his last outing, lasting 8 1/3 innings again the Giants and allowed only two hits on the way to coming just two outs short of his first shutout on the season. If he has even close to similar command of his knuckleball tonight, it should spell trouble for the Sox hitters.
I like Toronto tonight on the road against a struggling Axelrod, and especially like the reasonable price of just -115. The White Sox have dropped ten of their last thirteen games overall. They return home after a long west coast trip, but their home field advantage is somewhat diminished by the long flight back across the country. I’ll take the Jays to pick up a rare road win tonight in the Windy City.
Free Pick: Toronto Blue Jays to WIN -115
