Blue Jays vs. Yankees Pick – MLB May 24th

R.A. Dickey takes the hill tonight in an attempt to keep things going for himself. Dickey in a groove isn’t something you’re going to hear often, but it is true, Dickey has been pitching well to give a big boost for the Jays. You ask anybody, the Jays need Dickey to perform well. David Price isn’t here anymore, they need a crutch in the lineup to pick them up, and for the moment, Dickey has been holding his own on the mound. How long will this last? Everyone, including in the Blue Jays’ organization is wondering when Dickey is going to get bombed hard. Will the Yanks do it tonight?

The Yankees are asking a similar question about their starter tonight, Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi has been a bit all over the place with his pitching. He is not the most consistent of horses in the Yanks’ stable. And for that matter, the Yankees haven’t hadmuch consistency throughout their rotation. Gone are the days of great pitching up front, with a dangerous offense to boot. When the Yankees were plowing through everyone some 15 years ago, you could find them at a price of up to -400 sometimes. Yeah, they aren’t quite there anymore. They have a big divisional matchup on tap tonight against the Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Pick

R.A. Dickey (2-5, 4.50 ERA) vs. Nathan Eovaldi (4-2, 4.44 ERA)

Dickey needs to keep this pace up, Blue Jays’ fans are enjoying what they are seeing. However, it feels like it is only a matter of time before he flames out and gets hit pretty good. Well, that is what Jays’ fans are anticipating. That has been Dickey’s career in Toronto. Up with a lot of down. Dickey has posted an ERA of 4.50 this season, but lately, he has been riding a hot arm. Note that he has a 2.57 ERA in his last three starts, including a 0.95 WHIP. It has been a similar story for Eovaldi. I could cut and paste Dickey’s name with Eovaldi.

Eovaldi has a 4.44 ERA on the season, just a bit under Dickey, and again, both have been throwing the ball well. He boasts a 2.84 ERA in his last three matchups. So what we have here is a matchup of guys who have started slowly but have something going on lately. I have a suspicion this is not going to keep going for one of these guys, Eovaldi or Dickey is going to hit the can early tonight. Thus, it makes some sense to make a play on the OVER.

PICK: OVER 8 RUNS (-110)
