Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Pick – MLB April 10, 2022

The first edition of Sunday Night Baseball is a classic rivalry matchup at Yankee Stadium between the Red Sox and Yankees. The Yankees are going for the sweep at home following a 6-5 and 4-2 win.

In their latest win, the Yankees overcame a spotty start from Luis Severino, who hopes to be healthy and effective this season. Severino lasted 3 innings with 5 hits and 2 earned runs allowed.

The Yankees’ bullpen showed up well in that one, as the Red Sox didn’t record a hit after getting to Severino. The bullpen no-no from the Yanks was the catalyst in a 4-2 victory at Yankee Stadium.

Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton chipped in with 2 RBIs each to lead the Yankees at the dish. The only concern for the Yankees through the first games is their starting pitching.

Gerrit Cole didn’t look like a $324-million pitcher, as he was tagged for 4 hits and 3 earned runs across 4 innings of work. He was inconsistent last season, so this is a big year for Cole. Not a good start on Opening Day.

It hasn’t been a clean start for Boston, period, as they have two losses and no wins going into the third game of the season. They are looking to improve on a 92-70 season in 2021.

The Red Sox and Yankees drew even in the AL Central with the same record. It’s early in this campaign, so there isn’t anything to be concerned about following two losses.

Boston will look to stop the sweep with a promising young hurler on the hill tonight. Tanner Houck looked good in 18 games as a rookie last season. The 25-year-old could be a big x-factor in the Red Sox rotation.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction:

The Red Sox are high on Tanner Houck in the rotation this season. He has the potential to be a standout and break out in 2022.

In limited action in three appearances in 2020, Houck was in command with a 0.53 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. It was a good way to get your feet wet in the major leagues.

Houck received 13 starts and 18 total appearances in 2021. He held up well with a 3.52 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

It can often take pitchers a few years to get the hang of major league hitters, but Houck had encouraging results right away.

As a full-time member of the rotation in 2022, Houck is expected to take off to the next level. The Yankees had no answers for Houck in previous meetings.

This Yanks lineup is hitting 0.48 with just one hit in 27 at-bats versus Houck. Josh Donaldson was not with the Yankees last year, so no hits yet for the Yankees versus Houck.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Trends:

Red Sox

  • Record (Last 10): 0-2
  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games versus a pitcher with a WHIP below 1.15
  • 37-14 overall in their previous 51 games after losing the first games of a series
  • 7-19 overall in their previous 26 games versus a left-handed starter
  • 1-4 overal in their previous five games on the road
  • OVER is 9-2 in their previous 11 games

  • Record (Last 10): 2-0
  • 11-4 overall in their previous 15 games
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games at home
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games versus a right-handed pitcher
  • 35-17 overall in their previous 52 games after a win
  • UNDER is 9-4 in their previous 13 games versus the Red Sox

Jordan Montgomery will look to deliver the first standout start for a Yankee pitcher in 2022. He has produced a 3.88 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in five years.

Montgomery posted an ERA of 3.83 and a 1.28 WHIP last season. That’s pretty well consistent with what we’ve seen from him in his career.

Don’t expect anything wildly better, as Montgomery is what he is at this point. The Red Sox have had success versus Montgomery, with 5 home runs and 16 RBIs versus Montgomery in 141 at-bats.

This one may not go to extra innings like the season opener, but it should be close regardless. A win by a run for either side looks fairly possible.
