The Boston Red Sox will look to make it two in a row over the New York Yankees. They are coming off a 5-4 win in extra innings. Ryan Braiser was able to close the game after the Red Sox scratched a run across the plate. That wasn’t easy, but Braiser handled the situation well.

The Yankees scored a run in the bottom of the 9th off a fielder’s choice to tie the ball game up at 4-4. It wasn’t the flashiest run, nor was how the Red Sox won off a wild pitch. The only run scored in extras was Xander Bogaerts getting home after Michael King threw the game away.
This doesn’t provide the Yankees with an automatic win in the division. There is still time for them to go cold and give it up, but things sure look good for them going into the All-Star break.
They have lost five of their previous six attempts, with their only win during that stretch a 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Bronx Bombers weren’t too far off from getting swept by the Reds.
The Red Sox need a productive second half if they’re going to the postseason. They are a bubble team, with anything possible. Boston enters at 48-43 and will likely be part of a crowded wildcard race.
Nick Pivetta and Jameson Taillon are on the docket at Yankee Stadium this evening. Both were pitching well to open this season, but they’ve cooled off since then. Head below for our free Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction on July 16, 2022.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction:
The Yankees have the best pitching staff in the major leagues and that counts for a lot in the postseason. As a team, the Yankees hold an impressive 3.11 ERA. At Yankee Stadium, they’ve been in top form with an ERA of 2.79 and a 1.01 WHIP.
Have they been at their best recently? That hasn’t been the case. The Reds scored 13 runs over their last two meetings and then the Yankees gave up 5 more runs last night in the series opener.
Back home at Yankee Stadium, expect Taillon to look sharper on Saturday night. He’s been solid at home this season, with an ERA of 3.73 and a 1.24 WHIP.
Nick Pivetta has been having issues of his own recently. He is coming off a shoddy performance against the Yankees at home. Pivetta lasted just 3.1 innings after allowing 8 hits and 6 earned runs in 3.1 innings.

The Yankees look like the play after dropping a tough one at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.
