Closing out the last opening game of the MLB playoffs at AT&T Park. The San Francisco Giants welcome the Atlanta Braves with first pitch set for 9:37pm ET, Thursday October 7th, 2010. Atlanta sends Derek Lowe to the hill with no doubt wanting an economical and smartly played game by their veteran-hurler. Countered by the Giants Tim Lincecum who looks to give San Fran. the edge as the Braves won the season series in 2010.
Atlanta won four games to three this year against the Giants which would have come in handy as they went down to the wire with the Padres. All seven games were hotly contested affairs and will only add to the zeal of this series. If day one of the 2010 playoffs slips by anybody they are sure to catch this one. Not the consensus sexy pic. to watch, but this one will offer up a surely better team after this series than before. The Braves batters in this series have averaged over 6 walks per game against the Giants pitching staff this year. Derek Lowe has put up good numbers against the Giants in his career posting a 7-4 record and a 2.95 ERA. Aaron Rowand has been the only mark on Lowe for SFG hitters with a .471 career average against.
San Francisco had no reservations in naming Tim as the game one starter. He posted decent numbers in regards to his recent performances in the last couple of years. Which shows if 16-10 and a 3.43 ERA is just alright that, that is the level this guy has been at. Lincecum has had pretty similar stats as D.Lowe has but he’s been dusted up with hits by the tandem of McCann and Lee, both hitting .375 against. Giants smartly signed Aubrey Huff and he was a key off-season acquisition that no other seemed to want to sign and rookie Catcher Buster Posey being the only .300+ hitter, this team made it into extra games due to an increase in offense for sure.

Braves vs Giants NLDS Predictions for Game 1:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – The Giants can count on Tim Lincecum, if he doesn’t leave the game with the win, he’ll give them a good chance to win for sure. Derek Lowe however, even in the best of circumstances will give up a few and get out by the sixth. So with the Giants learning who they can count on and their big hitters showing their worth, I look to see a clear and calculated San Fran. attack. The Braves won the series, but I am sure the Giants will know what they have to do and do it. SFG will take Bobby Cox one step closer to retirement after this one.
TOP PLAY PREDICTION = GIANTS (-153)
Game Total Prediction – Derek Lowe eats up innings, but fails to go deep and only went to a maximum six innings in two starts, gaining the win in both games totaling nine runs against the Giants. Lincecum went 1-1 in two starts pitching well in both, but giving up the long ball. Though showed his worth going at least sixth 1/3 in both starts. With the total being at only 6.5, we all know that these offenses aren’t their go to options. But I see this one ending up as a 6-3 type game.
PREDICTION = OVER 6.5
