We took a one-day hiatus to gear up for the start of the English Premier League (a fun sport to wager, if you have always been a more traditional American baseball/basketball/football person) but are back today and hoping to keep a nice three game winning streak powering forward.
Thursday’s are usually lighter slates in MLB with a mixture of getaway day games and days off for travel, with the occasional start of a long weekend four game tilt in the mix, and today is no exception. Before we get to today’s action, if you missed last night’s late Dodgers vs. D’Backs thriller, you missed some postseason-worthy baseball. Cody Bellinger belted his 33rd home run, Kenley Jansen nailed down the save, and the Dodgers prevailed 3-2 to remain on track for a staggering 114-wins. They own a 15 ½ and 16 game lead over the Rockies and Diamondbacks respectively – and BOTH are in solid playoff position. Amazing stuff…
There’s some nice action tonight, highlighted by
Today’s MLB Pick:
St. Louis Cardinals -145 at Kansas City Royals +135 (Total: 8.5)
Lance Lynn vs. Jason Hammel
The Cardinals have driven the nail through the Royals postseason coffin by making themselves more than at home down the road at Kauffman Stadium. Tonight, things get even more daunting for the Royals as they face Lance Lynn and his 1.12 WHIP. Opposing him will be the disappointing Jason Hammel, who enters with a 5-9 record on the season and a 4.73 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
The Cardinals have won five straight games and have done it be producing the level of offense most expected from them this season, and a level that was sorely absent in their early season struggles. Yadier Molina hit a grand slam in yesterday’s 8-5 win, and the Cards have now tallied a whopping 46 runs over their last five games. Can Hammel’s pump the brakes on the runaway offensive train? Probably not, and if not, expect Lynn to win the game with ease.
The Cards are the clear play at -145 and a decent runline value at plus-money given the way they are hitting the baseball right now. The Cards have closed to just 1 ½ games behind the Cubs for the Central Division lead after being a languishing afterthought for the entirety of the season. Something special is brewing in St. Louis right now, and I’d be cautious fading the Cards until further notice.
Lynn is 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA over his last six starts. Hammel has been a little better lately but has a 4-6 record with a 5.68 career ERA against the Cardinals.
Today’s MLB Pick: ST. LOUIS CARDINALS TO WIN -145 (and like the runline value as well, if you are feeling more aggressive)
