Chicago Cubs vs. New York Yankees Pick – MLB June 11, 2022

The Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees are scheduled to meet at Yankee Stadium for the second of three games.

The Yankees edged out the Cubs by a run last night. Wade Miley set up the game nicely for the Cubs, with 1 earned run allowed through 3 innings.

The Cubs’ bullpen also silenced the Yankees’ offense, with the Yankees ending the game with only 1 earned run scored. That was good enough for a 2-1 win because of the work of Luis Severino and the Yankees’ relievers.

When the Yankees’ starter leaves the game and they have a lead with their bullpen, it’s very tough to mount a comeback against them, even if it’s only a run. Severino did his best, with 7 hits and 1 earned run allowed in 6 innings.

The Yankees advanced to 42-16 with a 7.5-game lead on the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East. They have a healthy lead, but it’s a long summer with the Jays and Rays not done yet.

The Bronx Bombers are entering tonight with wins in nine of their previous ten attempts. They were coming off a wild 10-7 win over the Minnesota Twins before things settled down in a 2-1 win last night.

The Cubs are looking to end a four-game losing streak on Saturday evening.

They are 23-34 and nine games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. This isn’t their season, but not bad enough to sit below the Reds.

Rookie Matt Swarmer is looking to stay hot after an impressive start to his career. He neutralized the Brewers and then did the same against the Cardinals.

This will be Swarmer’s first start on the road, and he gets a tricky park at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are expected to counter with Jordan Montgomery on the bump.

Cubs vs. Yankees Prediction:

The Cubs like what they see from Matt Swarmer to open his career. Swarmer made an impressive debut, followed by another nice start in his second major league performance.

He went 6 innings in his first against the Brewers at Wrigley Field, with 5 hits and 1 earned run allowed.

That was nice, but Swarmer was fortunate that only 1 out of 4 runs were earned. He came close to not having such an impressive opener on the stat sheet.

Swarmer was perfect all the way through against the Cubs, as he gave up just 2 hits and 1 earned run in a 6-1 win last weekend. He couldn’t have asked for anything better to his major league career.

That being said, Swarmer has never stepped on a major league mound on the road. It’s not a slow build-up either.

He has to make his first major league performance as a visitor at Yankee Stadium. The Yanks are fifth in the majors with 4.82 runs per 9 innings and lead the majors with 1.55 home runs per 9 innings.

The steady arm of Jordan Montgomery is getting the starting nod for the Yankees tonight.

Montgomery doesn’t have a flashy arm, but he gets the job done. He’s consistent and doesn’t have many bad games.

Chicago Cubs vs. NY Yankees Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 4-6
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games on the road
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games versus the American League as an underdog
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games versus the AL East
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five second game of a series
  • 2-5 overall in their previous seven games after a loss

  • Record (Last 10): 9-1
  • 7-1 overall in their previous eight games versus the National League as a betting favorite
  • 4-0 overall in their previous four games versus the National League at home
  • 47-17 overall in their previous 64 second game of a series
  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games versus the Cubs at home
  • 12-2 overall in their previous 14 games versus the Cubs

  • Montgomery is going into tonight with a consistent ERA of 3.02 and a 1.02 WHIP. The lefty stands well at Yankee Stadium with a 3.15 ERA and 0.82 WHIP.

Montgomery has an ERA of 2.33 and a 0.78 WHIP in his previous three attempts.

He’s allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in nine of his last ten starts. Also, note that Montgomery hasn’t yielded more than 3 earned runs in any performance in 2022.

The Cubs haven’t recorded an RBI against Montgomery in his career. This lineup is hitting .237 with no home runs and no RBIs.

Overall, the Cubs are 17th in the majors, with 4.39 runs per 9 innings. They have a mediocre pitching staff, so their record makes a lot of sense. As a team, the Cubs are 23rd with 4.75 runs against per 9 innings.

Their most troubling issue is keeping the lid on the park. They are 28th with 1.29 home runs allowed and up against the best home run team in the majors.

The Yankees are fourth in the majors out of the bullpen with a 2.92 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. As I said, beating the Yanks is tough when they have a lead late in games. I’m backing the Yanks by at least 2 runs tonight.
