The Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros close out a three-game series on Sunday Night Baseball. They split the first two games, with a 13-3 win for the Astros and 7-0 for the White Sox yesterday.

Johnny Cueto delivered a gem, as he went 7 innings with 2 hits and no runs allowed. The ‘Stros managed just 3 in totals in the losing effort. Cueto has been up and down, but gets a lot of credit for that performance.
The Astros were decent favorites with Justin Verlander on the mound, but he was torched for 9 hits and 4 earned runs in 3.2 innings. That was obviously a bad performance from JV.
The White Sox are 31-32 and are five games behind the Minnesota Twins for the lead in the AL Central. They are picking away at the lead and should have a decent opportunity late in the season.
It’s a wide-open division with the Twins, Guardians, and White Sox, all with valid claims. Despite the big loss yesterday, the Astros are in a strong position at 40-25. They have a comfortable nine-game lead over the Texas Rangers.
It feels like a repeat every season, but the Angels are underachievers that continue to beat themselves. The Astros can take a nap against this competition in the AL West and likely still win.
Houston will look to quickly put the performance from yesterday to sleep and bounce back tonight in primetime. Cristian Javier is expected to go on the hill for the Astros, while Michael Kopech counters on the road.
Kopech was used primarily as a reliever last season and showed enough to give him a look in the rotation. He’s riding high with this chance and not giving it up. Head below for our free White Sox vs. Astros prediction on June 19, 2022.

White Sox vs. Astros Prediction:
Michael Kopech has been the most pleasant surprise for the White Sox this season. The White Sox expected him to be good, but they probably didn’t plan to see him breaking out this well.
Kopech is going into this evening with an ERA of 1.92 and a 0.93 WHIP through 11 starts. Kopech shuttered the Dodgers two weeks ago in his best start this season.
It was Kopech’s fourth start in six attempts where he didn’t yield a run. He’s done a fine job completely shutting down his foes in his first year in the rotation.
Kopech has been in fine form on the road with a 2.35 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 23 innings. He has a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in his previous three starts, though this was because of one bad spot versus the Blue Jays.
The Astros are winning games this season, but it hasn’t exactly been because of the offense. They’re hitting .239 for 18th and 4.42 runs per 9 innings for 17th in the major leagues.
Last night did not look like a typical Astros ballgame. Verlander was out of control, and he couldn’t record an out. Javier could give the Astros a bounce-back effort on the mound.

Javier is going into Sunday Night Baseball with a 3.20 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He’s thrived at Minute Maid Park in Houston this season.
The Astros have the leading bullpen in the major leagues this season. They have a 2.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP for a clear advantage on the Yankees with a 2.83 ERA.
Houston is probably the play to bounce back with a win, but the price is just a touch too high, and a 1-run win could likely make the runline a bit risky. I will back the pitcher’s in a low-scoring final on Sunday night.
