Sunday Night Baseball is the nightcap of the doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. This is the standalone primetime matchup on ESPN, and it should be a good one.
10-years of MLB service time and a grand slam 🎉

The Yankees edged ahead for a 7-5 win at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. DJ LeMahieu sank the White Sox with a bases-clearing grand slam in the 2nd inning. The Bronx Bombers took a 5-0 lead into the top of the 3rd, where the White sox showed some grit to respond with 3 runs.
However, the White Sox went scoreless through the 7th to the 9th against the Yanks’ bullpen. Nestor Cortes Jr. was able to settle down after allowing 3 in the top of the 3rd and get the game to their potent bullpen.
With the win for the Yankees, they’ve won five of six games and 26-10 on the season. This is of course not including the afternoon game of this doubleheader. The Yankees have a 5.5-game lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.

The AL East is the Yankees to lose this season. They’re the most complete team, and most importantly, their bullpen is going to win the Yankees a lot of games.
If the Yankees don’t win the division and go deep in the playoffs, there won’t be many excuses in the Bronx.
Fortunately for the White Sox, this is a slow start in the Central Division for everyone. The Twins are the only team with their heads above water at 24-16.
Despite being second in the AL Central, the White Sox are a game under .500 entering this afternoon. Michael Kopech will look to end the weekend with a win at Yankee Stadium.
Kopech is in good form through seven starts. He mainly spent his time in the bullpen last year, but has earned his spot in the rotation this year. Head below for our free White Sox vs. Yankees pick on May 22, 2022.

White Sox vs. Yankees Prediction:
Michael Kopech is in ace form in his first season as a full-time member of the White Sox rotation. He appeared in 44 games a season ago, with only four starts and 40 showings as a reliever.
Kopech held his own with an ERA of 3.50 and a 1.13 WHIP in his first season with regular work.
He came into this season fighting for a spot in the rotation and deservedly is a starter. Kopech is fulfilling his duties for this assignment thus far.
He is going into tonight with an ERA of 1.54 and a 0.94 WHIP. Kopech enters Yankee Stadium with a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in his previous three starts.
This is a rematch for Kopech after a 5-1 loss in Chicago last week. Kopech was in excellent shape besides a couple of mistakes.
The Yankees mustered up just one hit, but he was tagged for 3 earned runs. It’s the first time in seven starts in 2022 that Kopech has allowed more than 2 runs.
Kopech is a hard-throwing righty that can be tough to make contact against when he’s dealing. He’s lasted an average of 5 innings per game with an impressive 3.5 hits conceded a game. 4 hits is the most hits he has allowed in a game versus the Cubs on May 3.
Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Trends:
White Sox
- Record (Last 10): 4-6
- 8-3 overall in their previous 11 games on the road
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus the AL East
- UNDER is 8-1-1 in their previous ten games on the road versus a right-handed starter
- UNDER is 5-2 in their previous seven games as an underdog
- UNDER is 8-3 in their previous 11 games versus the AL East
Yankees
- Record (Last 10): 8-2
- 4-1 overall in their previous five games in the second game of a doubleheader
- 11-3 overall in their previous 14 games versus a team with a losing record
- UNDER is 7-2 in their previous nine games on a Sunday
- UNDER is 4-0 in their previous third game of a series
- UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus a team with a losing record
The White Sox are just 26th in the majors with an average of 3.62 runs scored 9 innings. They are 25th in OPS and 20th in home runs per game. Disappointing for the White Sox in that regard.
Severino is going into Sunday evening with an ERA of 3.63 and a 1.18 WHIP. He’s coming off his best start, with 1 hit and 1 earned run allowed across 6 innings versus the O’s.
In seven appearances this year, Severino has given up more than 3 runs only once. These are two hard-throwing righties taking center stage on Sunday Night Baseball tonight. I’d point towards the UNDER at 9 runs.
