Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick – MLB April 14, 2022

The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers open a four-game series at Dodger Stadium on Thursday night. The Dodgers welcome the Reds after a 7-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

After losing their opening series with two losses in three games against the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers came through with back-to-back wins in a short interleague series against the Twins.

Everything was working for the Dodgers against the Twins. In two games they outscored the Twins for a 7-2 and 7-2 win. In their latest attempt yesterday, Clayton Kershaw went 7 innings with no hits allowed. You read that right. Kershaw pitched 7 innings carrying a no-hitter and left the game.

Dave Roberts had Kershaw on a pitch count and didn’t hesitate to pull him after 80 pitches. Kershaw didn’t have an opportunity to put in the most work in the spring, so Roberts didn’t want to overextend his stay in his first appearance of the season.

The Reds are expected to give Luis Cessa the starting nod on the mound on the road at Dodger Stadium. Walker Buehler receives the call for the Dodgers tonight.

The Reds have opened the season in tough form with four losses in six attempts. They go into Dodger Stadium 2-4 following a 10-5 and 7-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.

Reds vs. Dodgers Prediction:

Former New York Yankee, Luis Cessa, is scheduled to go for the Reds on Thursday night. After two appearances out of the bullpen, Cessa will see his first start at Dodger Stadium tonight. It should be a tough assignment in the home opener at Dodger Stadium.

Cessa held up well through 2.2 innings with 1 hit and no runs conceded against the Braves.

Cessa hasn’t started a game since 2018 in the Bronx. He struggled with a 5.24 ERA that season and found a home where Cessa was more comfortable in the bullpen.

In 29 games as a reliever last season, Cessa posted a 2.82 ERA and 1.25 WHIP before a trade to the Reds. It will be interesting to see how they utilize Cessa tonight.

He’s not accustomed to going this deep in games, so the Reds will have to be careful here. They don’t have a particularly good bullpen to bail them out in this spot.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 2-4
  • 2-8 overall in their previous ten games versus the NL West
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games versus a team with a winning record
  • 1-7 overall in their previous eight games after a day off
  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games as an underdog on the road
  • 4-9 overall in their previous 13 games versus the Dodgers

  • 42-16 overall in their previous 58 games on a Thursday
  • 42-13 overall in their previous 55 games at home versus a team with a losing record
  • 35-17 overall in their previous 52 games versus the Reds at home

The Reds’ pitching staff is 27th in the majors to open the season with 5.54 runs allowed per 9 innings. Opponents have hit .253 against the Reds for the 24th-best pitching staff in the majors in the early stages of the regular season.

Walker Buehler counters for the Dodgers in this one. Buehler gets the home opener duties after a career-high and most reliable starter for the Dodgers last season.

Buehler posted an ERA of 2.47 and a 0.97 WHIP across 33 outings in 2021. It was a good start for Buehler in a tough environment at Coors Field.

Through 5 innings, Buehler allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs against the Rockies. That’s not a bad outing for Buehler at Coors, a tough place for another pitcher.

At Dodger Stadium last season, Buehler was hot with a 2.05 ERA and .192 OBA. No Red in this lineup has taken Buehler deep before. They’re hitting .208 with no home runs against Buehler.

Expect the Dodgers to win and to win by at least 2 runs to cover the runline in their home opener at Dodger Stadium.
