The Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros meet for the series finale at Minute Maid Park. We had a split between Monday and Tuesday, with the Guardians opening notching a 6-1 win behind Triston McKenzie.
McKenzie allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run in 7 innings. The ‘Stros responded nicely with a big offensive performance against Zach Plesac. He allowed 9 hits and 7 earned through 4.2 innings of work.

Framber Valdez conceded 7 hits and 3 earned runs across. The Astros moved to 28-16 on the season with the win.
Houston has a one-game lead over the LA Angels in the AL West. The Angels are playing up to expectations, at least so far, with a record of 27-17.
This could be a duel between the Astros and Angels to the finish line in the AL West. It’s all Astros and Angels, with the next closest team to the Astros, Texas, down by 8.5 games.
They’ve seen it before in Anaheim with this team. All is going well, and there is the hype surrounding their campaign then it all falls apart. If the Angels don’t keep pace, it’s going to be all Astros in the AL West.

Houston would pull ahead in a hurry if the Angels begin to struggle. Meanwhile, over in the AL Central, the only team better than .500 is the Twins at 27-16.
The Guardians are going into Wednesday night with a record of 18-21. They trail the Twins by seven games and in the hunt. Despite the Twins running clear at the moment, it’s a wide-open division that should get closer in the summer.
Cleveland is scheduled to send Cal Quantrill to the bump against Cristian Javier of the Astros. Both have been in solid form going into this matchup.

Guardians vs. Astros Prediction:
The Guardians will look to get another productive start out of Cal Quantrill on Wednesday night. Quantrill has been in good form in Cleveland, with an ERA of 3.48 and a 1.19 WHIP across 42 innings of work.
He’s been steady, with a 3.72 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through his previous 20 innings of work. Quantrill has been at his best at home in Ohio. He owns a 3.06 ERA and 1.02 WHIP at Progressive Field.
His effort on the road is acceptable, though tails off with an ERA of 3.80 and a 1.31 WHIP. The Astros pose a fairly sizable challenge at Minute Maid Park tonight.
Quantrill wants to forget about his previous outings against the Astros. The ‘Stros are hitting .428 with a .539 OBP versus Quantrill in 15 at-bats.
The Astros’ offense isn’t performing up to their standards, but are capable of having a big night any time. They are 16th in the majors, with 4.36 runs per 9 innings. The power numbers have been solid, though, with 1.54 home runs per game.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Houston Astros Betting Trends:

- 1-4 overall in their previous five games as an underdog on the road
- 1-6 overall in their previous seven games versus a right-handed starter
- 2-5 overall in their previous seven games

- 2-5 overall in their previous seven games at Houston
- Record (Last 10): 6-4

- 12-4 overall in their previous 16 games versus a right-handed starter
- 8-2 overall in their previous ten games versus the Guardians
Cristian Javier is going to be a tough one for the Guardians tonight. Javier is one of the more underrated pitchers in the majors this season.
He’s been close to perfect at Minute Maid Park this season. Javier owns an ERA of 6.08 and a 1.43 WHIP on the road. Conversely, Javier has a 0.50 ERA and 0.72 WHIP through 18 innings.
There is value to be had on the Astros tonight. If they’re interested, the ‘Stros should be able to ride the arm of Javiers to a win at Minute Maid Park.
Expect the Guardians to fall behind in this one after Quantrill exits the game. The Astros to win by more than a run on the runline at +115 looks like a good value bet in Texas tonight.
