Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick – MLB May 1, 2022

The Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers close out a three-game series at Dodger Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Detroit pulled off an impressive upset over Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.

Kershaw broke the Dodgers’ record for career strikeouts, but the team didn’t have a win to celebrate. Mookie Betts struck with a solo home run on the game’s second pitch. However, that was all for the Dodgers.

It looked like the Dodgers were going to make it look easy against Beau Brieske, who hasn’t been able to find traction in his major league career.

Brieske settled in to pitch 5 innings of pretty well mistake-free baseball after the home run. Credit to Brieske, who shook off the nerves and had the best performance of his career.

The Dodgers rebounded from back-to-back losses against the Diamondbacks. They earned a 5-1 win on Friday night, though the Tigers repaid the favor 24 hours later.

The offense was sputtering for the Tigers before looking pretty good versus Kershaw. Kershaw allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and 1 earned run. That’s good for most pitchers, but this is Kershaw, who expected better.

Walker Buehler is next up in the Dodgers’ rotation, while the Tigers look to take two of three games at Dodger Stadium with Eduardo Rodriguez on the hump.

The Tigers were on a six-game losing streak before getting the win last night. Their offense had scored just 2 runs in three attempts. It was a much-needed victory for the Tigers, who are expected to be better than six games below .500.

The Dodgers enter tonight with a record of 13-7 and a half-game behind the San Francisco Giants.

It hasn’t been a perfect start for the Dodgers this season, but it’s early, and the best teams tend to rise and get hot in the summer months. Head below for our free Tigers vs. Dodgers prediction on May 1, 2022.

Tigers vs. Dodgers Prediction:

The Tigers were glad to welcome Eduardo Rodriguez to their pitching staff in the offseason. Rodriguez had a career-high ERA of 3.81 and a 1.33 WHIP, but after sitting 2020 out because of Covid symptoms, he was unable to regain his form.

The idea is that Rodriguez was going to be in full health and ready to shake off a rusty 2021. He posted an ERA of 4.74 and a 1.39 WHIP in his final year with the Red Sox. It’s been more of the same for him through four appearances this year.

E-Rod boasts an ERA of 5.03 and a 1.27 WHIP across 21.1 innings on the bump. He’s conceded at least 3 earned runs in three of his four attempts this season.

The Dodgers have had fun against Rodriguez in the past.

Rodriguez doesn’t care to see the Dodgers on the schedule. He’s had problems, with the Dodgers hitting .347 and a .367 OBP in 35 at-bats. After a sleepy night for the Dodgers offense, expect much better Sunday.

Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 3-7
  • 1-6 overall in thier previous seven games
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games as an underdog on the road
  • 19-40 overall in their previous 59 games on a Sunday
  • 1-5 overall in the third game of a series
  • 9-4 overall in thier previous 13 interleague games

  • Record (Last 10): 5-5
  • 16-4 overall in their previous 20 games at home
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games versus the AL Central
  • 41-18 overall in their previous 59 games at home versus a left-handed starter
  • 46-13 overall in their previous 59 games at home
  • 3-7 overall in their previous ten games at Dodger Stadium

Walker Buehler looks to put together a quality performance after starting predictably hot this season. This afternoon, he goes into an ERA of 2.55 and a 1.05 WHIP.

Buehler is coming off his best start in four attempts in 2022. The Diamondbacks were blanked in a 4-0 loss, as Buehler went the distance with 3 hits conceded in a complete game.

The Tigers are hitting .188 with a .210 OBP in 24 at-bats against Buehler. Expect Buehler to get better run support than Kershaw had to deal with last night on a historic night for him.

The Tigers had some form of substance from their offense last night, but that’s been unusual for them. They are 28th in the major leagues, with 3.19 runs per 9 innings.

The Tigers have connected on just 0.43 home runs per game for 30th in the major leagues. With the Dodgers’ bats likely waking up today, the Tigers will need to find some power against Buehler.

After their discouraging performance last night, the public may be scared away from the Dodgers. However, you must have a short memory when it comes to sports betting.

Look for the Dodgers to look like themselves against Rodriguez. The Dodgers in a 5-2 or 6-3 win looks about right.
