Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Pick MLB – July 10th

Last night didn’t quite go according to plan with my official play. The Cleveland Indians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0, in a rather uneventful contest. I did, however, cash the Dodgers and the team total OVER 4, which I posted as a lean on my Twitter account (@NFLSportsGeek). I should have included it as a bonus play, but it was one of those wagers that grows on you throughout the day. Even with the loss yesterday I still am on a terrific run. I fully expect to bounce back and keep churning profits out.

Free MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Dodgers -105 at Arizona Diamondbacks -115 (Total: 9)

Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3, 2.82 ERA) vs. Tyler Skaggs (2-1, 3.65 ERA)

I don’t know if the cat is out of the bag yet on the Dodgers, but given the lines we are getting with them, I don’t think that is the case. If anyone hasn’t noticed, the Los Angeles Dodgers are one of, if not the hottest team in baseball. They have now won three straight, and 8 out of their last 10. Their success is accredited to a couple of things, the emergence of rookie Yasiel Puig and they are finally getting healthy. Earlier in the season the Dodgers trotted out an ugly looking lineup on a regular basis, but with Hanley Ramirez and Carl Crawford finally healthy, they are a team that has some offensive punch. Matt Kemp’s injury has put a damper on things, but they haven’t let it bother them at the moment.

The Dodgers have two aces on their pitching staff, the one being Clayton Kershaw, of course. And the other I argue is left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu has enjoyed much success with the Dodgers this season, posting a 7-3 record with a solid ERA of 2.82. Ryu has been so solid that the last time he allowed over 3 runs was way back on May 5th against the San Francisco Giants. That being twelve starts ago! His ERA of 2.21 in his last three games reflects the dominance he’s showcased this season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ offense has been a fickle bunch this season. It is difficult to decipher what you are going to receive from them, but I do know one thing, they usually struggle against good pitching and beat up the lousy ones. They have struggled to score runs against the Dodgers in this series, compiling only 2 runs in two games, losing both by a score of 6-1. I can’t see their offensive output getting any better against Ryu.

To try and stymie the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks will send youngster Tyler Skaggs to the mound. Skaggs has shown flashes of the good things he could possibly bring to this franchise in the future, other times he has been erratic, from poor performances to very poor performances. He did an excellent job against the Giants last game, holding them to no runs and only three hits. However, he tends to get pushed around in starts following a great outing. I foresee the Dodgers getting to Skaggs to keep the good vibes going into the All-Star break. I’ll take the Dodgers at a small price.
