Yesterday’s baseball pick was cashed as a winner by the 5th inning, so I flipped it over to Monday Night Football. It’s a good thing I did, because NOTHING else happened the rest of the game. The score finished at the same 6-2 it rested at in the 5th, giving me a half-run cover. So I guess it was an “easy” win and a nail-biter at the exact same time…
A win is a win, and it’s certainly a nice way to start the week. Let’s keep the momentum going today and make it four winning picks in a row.
Today’s Free Pick:
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks (Total: 8)
Zack Greinke (14-3, 2.74 ERA) vs. Patrick Corbin (14-6, 2.94 ERA)
Very quietly, because the division has so long been wrapped up, the Dodgers are going through some pretty tough times. They have lost 9 of their last 12 games and have been outscored 29-9 in their last four games. It’s not troubling in the sense that their post-season spot is long since secured.
The Dodgers magic number is still at four with two weeks of baseball remaining, so the sky isn’t exactly falling, but it does make the National League seem a lot more wide open that it did just two weeks ago. Meanwhile Arizona, while technically alive, is all but eliminated from playoff contention. They’ve played like an average team most of the year, and the last few weeks haven’t been an exception. They are 5-5 in their last ten games.
Zack Greinke enters tonight’s game on fire. He is 6-0 in his last nine starts with a microscopic 1.58 ERA. He has been simply dominant, and has actually been their best pitcher for the last four weeks. I expect him to pitch well again this evening and handle the Diamondback lineup, which outside of Paul Goldschmidt, doesn’t really scare you much. Greinke has handled Goldschmidt this season, as he is just 1-7 with no HRs this season.
Patrick Corbin appeared to hit a wall with three rough starts in a row, but rebounded nicely last week, beating the Dodgers 4-1. Even with the three straight losses prior, his ERA is still under 3.00 for the season and his stuff still looks sharp even in late September. He is 3-0 with a 1.94 ERA lifetime against the Dodgers. I like him to pitch well this evening as well.
This game has pitcher’s duel written all over it, which makes the total of 8 seem about a run or so high. I’ll take advantage of the generous cushion and ride the UNDER tonight.
Free Pick: Run TOTAL UNDER 8 (or 7.5 at +100 – whatever your sportsbook has)
