Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Pick MLB – September 17th

Back on the diamond tonight after a fairly successful weekend betting football. I made some money on Saturday with college and then Sunday, so there wasn’t much to complain about once again. In fact, there hasn’t been too much to complain about in the last few months. I have had one my best years betting baseball, and expect to keep that going. The playoffs are just around the corner, so let’s keep it going right into October. Tonight’s free pick features the best 2013 has had to offer this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers -105 at Arizona Diamondbacks -115 (Total: 7.5)

Zack Greinke (14-3, 2.74 ERA) vs. Patrick Corbin (14-6, 2.92)

Both pictures tonight have exceeded many people’s expectations coming into this season. Zack Greinke I think was an afterthought coming over from the Milwaukee Brewers. Yeah, expectations were there for him to be good, but I’m not sure anyone expected him to toss an ERA below 3.00 at this point in the season. Greinke has benefited from pitching behind a team that has hit its stride in the last couple of months. With Ryu coming in as the undisputed ace for this ball club, I think you could make the argument that Greinke has unseated him for that spot. As he’s been doing all year long, Greinke has been flawless in his has three starts, posting an ERA of 1.89 in that regard. Also, he has a solid 1.00 WHIP and .253. In his last nine starts, he’s given up only between 0-2 runs.

Even with all the success the Dodgers have had though, they are currently in the midst of a four game losing streak. Once again the injury bug has hit, as Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier will both be questionable coming into tonight. Hanley is the piece of the puzzle for the Dodgers that will carry this team, he has to stay healthy if they want to win it all. They could have trouble against Patrick Corbin on the road, where he sports a record of 8-2 and an ERA of only 2.21. If you look at his last three starts the numbers aren’t great with a 4.19 ERA, but most of that damage came in one game which fell on the 1st against the Giants. However, he bounced back in his last start allowing only 1 run against these same Dodgers.

I have made plenty of coin this season wagering money on games these two pitchers are involved in. Either by backing them or making an under bet, with both options being very successful for me this season. I was excited to see this pitching matchup when I looked at the card, because I have a hard time believing this one is going to be a high scoring contest. I expect both pitchers to settle in, and with the Dodgers’ lineup banged up again, Corbin should be able to have a great game at home where he is lights out. The line jumped from 8 to 7.5 as I’m writing this, but I still like the under at 7.5 regardless.

Free Pick: UNDER 7.5
