Dodgers vs. Reds Pick MLB – September 7th

We encountered my first loss of the week last night as the Seattle Mariners downed the Rays, 6-4. The 6-4 final gave me a loss on the under, so we move to Saturday where I still look to continue an impressive week. MLB Saturday’s are typically paid attention to less this time of the year due to college football garnering most of the attention. However, with money to be won I can’t ignore it just yet. I’ll be off tomorrow with no MLB pick, but be sure to browse the blog for my week 1 NFL wagers.

Free MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Dodgers +111 at Cincinnati Reds -120(Total: 7)

Zack Greinke (14-3, 2.78 ERA) vs. Mat Latos (14-5, 2.98 ERA)

I have a wad of cash this season latching on with hot teams and pitchers. The Los Angeles Dodgers are a prime example of that, soon as they got healthy and hot, I began to lay it down on the Dodgers regularly. The Dodgers dropped the first game of the series last night, getting shutdown by Reds’ pitcher Mike Leake. They got 2 runs in the top of the first, but that was it for the Dodgers, falling 3-2.

They’ll look to get back in the win column with the red hot Zack Greinke providing his services Saturday afternoon. Greinke has been as hot as they come in the second part of the season, not allowing more than 3 runs since July 25th. Since that game Greinke has rattled off seven straight excellent games. Including two games where he allowed no runs, with none of them in that stretch touching 3. The numbers in his last three starts reflect this dominance, possessing a 1.52 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, and .209 OBP. Those are numbers that indicate Greinke is the best pitcher in baseball at the moment.

Reds’ Mat Latos has enjoyed a great season as well while flying a little under the radar in 2013. His command has been excellent on his pitches, giving him a solid ERA of 2.98. Like Greinke, Latos has been showcasing his talents mostly of late. After allowing 6 runs to the Braves on July 11th, Latos fired off seven straight games of baseball giving up no more than 2 runs a game. And just like Greinke, Latos had a couple of no run games thrown in for good measures. His wheels fell off against the Cardinals a tad two starts ago, where he lasted 6 innings allowing 4 runs. However, he followed that performance up with a 9 inning 2 run 4 hit game at home against the same team.

Two heavyweights on the mound today, which should give way to a game similar to last nights. The final score should be quite similar with Greinke and Latos taking full control of both offenses. I like the under with a lean to the Dodgers. Greinke as an underdog does look mighty tasty, but I’ll stick with the under for my official wager and look to finish the week at 5-1 with my MLB bets.
