I had the great opportunity to catch a game in Coors Field last night (spectacular ballpark by the way, but still not cracking my Top Three nicest parks of AT&T Park in San Fran, PNC Park in Pittsburgh, and The Jake in Cleveland – no I don’t care what’s its new name is).
Even more fun, I got see an underappreciated event transpire when Dee Gordon hit two triples in the same game. I couldn’t find the exact statistic, but I’d be willing to wager it is about twenty-five times (or even more) less frequent than a player hitting two homeruns in the same game. Either way, Dee Gordon can flat pick ‘em up and lay ‘em down with the best of the them, and while he may not beat Billy Hamilton in a foot race, his productivity sure does so far in 2014… awesome stuff.
The loss continued the misery for the Rox, and we are starting to finally see some separation in the 2014 baseball season. The Blue Jay, A’s and Giants have surged to commanding division leads, while the Red Sox, Rockies, and Rays have played themselves into dangerous territory, especially the two AL East supposed-contenders; non-factors for the long, long summer…
We took a one-day hiatus yesterday, but hopefully we can add on to the brief three-game winning streak we left behind. Let’s take a look at today’s free pick.
Today’s Free Pick:
Los Angeles Dodgers -133 at Colorado Rockies +125 (Total: 9.5)
Zack Greinke vs. Jhoulys Chacin
This is one of those lines where I immediately checked several other sources to make sure I had it correctly. You have one of the best pitchers in baseball facing off against a team with an eight-game losing streak, it’s second-best hitter injured, and a starting pitcher with an ERA THREE RUNS higher on the mound – and you are only laying -133?!?
I usually deliberate a little deeper but this one flew off the page and hit me in the face. I’m not want to get greedy; I like to take successes in stride when it’s going well and avoid panic wagers or “make-up” wagers during the inevitable doldrums that will hit suring a long baseball season – but this one has great double-up value all written all over it.
The Rockies have lost by more than one run SEVEN times in their eight game losing streak. They have lost by multiple runs in eight of their last ten games overall. They have been outscored by an average of 3.63 runs per game in that stretch.
I’ll take the Blue Crew to back up Greinke a little better than last weekend’s Pittsburgh loss and to win, as well as cover the runline.
