Last night’s lineup was a solid one all around, anchored by another lights out performance from Corey Kluber. This guy is on some kind of run right now and notched another double-digit strikeout performance with 11 punchouts while throwing a complete game for the Tribe. Trevor Cahill didn’t fare too well, however our Red Sox stack did damage while a couple of our Orioles chipped in as well. Let’s move on to tonight’s 13-game slate and see what we have in store!
*With the Rockies in a good spot at home tonight, this lineup is recommended for GPPs.
P – Justin Verlander (DET) – $9,000 vs. BAL
While there are some big names atop the pitching board tonight, there is risk involved with those names so I will look to get some value out of Justin Verlander tonight. Verlander has been on a roll as of late, allowing only eight earned runs over his last five starts and most recently shut down the Houston Astros with six innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts. He gets an Orioles team tonight that can be strikeout prone at times and have just two players with an OPS north of .800 against right-handed pitching this season.
P – Jacob Faria (TB) – $8,500 vs. MIL
Faria certainly is a GPP play tonight considering the boom-or-bust nature of his opponent in the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers can mash as evidenced be their 127 home runs against righties this season (4th) but they also lead all of baseball with 806 strikeouts against righties as well. Faria owns a solid 8.5 K/9 clip on the season while posting a 2.93 ERA, certainly not shabby numbers for a rookie getting his first taste of big league action this season.
C – Chris Gimenez (MIN) – $2,500 vs. TEX
This lineup will get started off with a value play at the catching position. Chris Gimenez and the Twins will step into the box tonight against Rangers’ southpaw Martin Perez who has allowed righties to hit him for a .389 wOBA at home this season. Gimenez boasts plenty of pop in his bat against left-handed pitching with an impressive .256 ISO and 43.8% hard hit rate against southpaws this year, numbers that clearly show value upside in this matchup.
1B – Lucas Duda (TB) – $4,800 vs. MIL
I feel Faria will also have the backing of his offense tonight against rookie right-hander Brandon Woodruff. While Woodruff was decent to lefties in the minors, these Rays’ have been swinging it lately. Duda has hit three homers in just six games since coming over from the Mets in a trade and sports a .500 ISO and .493 wOBA over the last seven days. I feel the Rays could jump the rookie early tonight and Duda should continue to do damage out of the two hole tonight.
2B – Brian Dozier (MIN) – $4,200 vs. TEX
Dozier will get the Twins stack started off out of the leadoff spot tonight as he has clobbered left-handed pitching this season. Dozier sports a .318 average, .212 ISO, .938 OPS and .394 wOBA on the season against left-handed pitching. He’s also made hard contact 37.3% of the time against lefties and makes for a high upside play with extra at-bat upside in the leadoff spot tonight.
3B – Evan Longoria (TB) – $4,200 vs. MIL
I mentioned that Woodruff was decent to lefties in the minors, however the same cannot be said for righties. He posted a 5.28 ERA and gave up eight home runs in 44 innings against right-handed batters this season. Enter Longoria who has a .250 ISO and .345 wOBA over the last seven days against righties as he will hit right in the middle of the order tonight.
SS – Eduardo Escobar (MIN) – $4,200 vs. TEX
Escobar is projected to hit in the two hole right behind Dozier so let’s lock him into the shortstop position tonight. Besides, he has hit lefties to the tune of a .225 ISO, .895 OPS and .374 wOBA on the season. He and Dozier are the two only two Twins to boast a batting average over .300 to lefties this season so I have high hopes for these lower owned players tonight.
OF – Corey Dickerson (TB) – $4,600 vs. MIL
Dickerson is projected to hit leadoff for the Rays tonight as he has been on fire lately. Dickerson sports a .200 ISO and .364 wOBA over the last seven days and his five for his last ten at the plate. He is in the middle of a career year and should be able to continue his fine season against the rookie right-hander this evening.
OF – Steven Souza Jr. (TB) – $4,600 vs. MIL
The Ray who is on the biggest tear right now is outfielder Steven Souza Jr. Over the last seven days, he sports a .471 ISO, 1.165 OPS and a .469 wOBA. He is coming off of a huge game last night as he doubled and homered and he brings some stolen base upside with him as well considering he has stolen three bases over his last seven contests.
OF – Ben Revere (LAA) – $3,400 vs. OAK
While Revere doesn’t bring a lot of power upside to the table, he brings plenty of speed, on-base ability and is facing a very shaky pitcher tonight in Jharel Cotton. Cotton sports a 6.30 FIP and a .352 wOBA allowed to lefties this season while Revere sports a .368 OBP over the last seven days and has stolen four bases over his last four games. That OBP had him in the leadoff spot for last night’s game and the same is certainly possible again tonight and would increase his value as a result.
